ADDING PREFIXES: -DUCT- 🤓 The root -DUCT- means ‘leading something or someone’. 👇 Click the links 🔗 below to understand more! • As a noun, a ‘duct' is a tube or channel to lead air or water to somewhere else. We can add different PREFIXES to change the meaning: • Adding con- (with) we get the verb ‘to conduct’ which means to lead or direct. • Adding pro- (for) we get the noun ‘product’ meaning ‘something which is made’ • Adding ab- (away) we get the verb ‘abduct’ meaning ‘to take someone away against their will’. Just like with -PORT- we can add SUFFIXES to create more complex words: • Putting -or at the end of a verb creates ‘conductor’ and ‘abductor’, people who do those things. • Adding -ion creates an abstract noun for the process: ‘production’ and ‘abduction’ Learn roots, prefixes and suffixes and you’ll know many more words!

WHAT ARE… ROOTS? 🤓 Roots are what we call the central core of a word to which we add PREFIXES and SUFFIXES to make words. Take the root -PORT- which is about ‘carrying’. • As a NOUN, ‘port’ means a place where things can be carried away by boat. • We can add the suffix -er (someone or something that does this) to make ‘porter’, a person who carries something. • If we add the prefix trans-, meaning ‘across’, we get ‘transport’ - carrying things or people across space. • If we add both a suffix and a prefix, we get ‘transporter’ - something which carries things across space. • To make it an ADJECTIVE, we can add the suffix -able, which means ‘we can do this to it’, giving us ‘portable’ - something we can carry. Learning roots will help you improve your vocabulary faster!

#SUNDAY #SHORTS 📺 This week’s Sunday short is about MIXED CONDITONALS. 👉 Click HERE https://t.ly/Z2ALY to see the original video! ¹ If you had learned how to mix conditionals you wouldn't need to watch this video! Check this out! This is a mixed conditional where we mix the third conditional with the second. Mixed conditionals help us move through time so we connect a past action with a present result. Check the difference: ² Normal conditionals - If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam. [past, past] ³ Mixed conditionals - If I had studied harder, I would feel better today. [past, present] Come back later this evening for the questions!

🎶 #SINGALONG #SATURDAY 🎶 🤓 We've learned about CONDITIONALS this week and this song from the classic musical The Wizard of Oz has some good examples. 👇 Read the lyrics and guess what's behind the spoilers. Then listen and check! When a man's an empty kettle He should be on his mettle And yet I'm torn apart Just because I'm presuming That I could be a human If I only had a heart I'd be tender, I'd be gentle And awful sentimental Regarding love and art I'd be friends with the sparrows And the boy that shoots the arrows If I only had a heart Picture me a balcony Above a voice sings low Wherefore art thou, Romeo? I hear a beat, how sweet! Just to register emotion, jealousy, devotion And really feel the part I could stay young and chipper And I'd lock it with a zipper If I only had a heart

THIRD TO SECOND #CONDITIONAL 🤓 Sometimes past actions have a result in the present - for this we use the 3rd->2nd MIXED CONDITIONAL. 👇 Click the links 🔗 below to understand more! The ‘if’ clause is from the THIRD CONDITIONAL: • If I had bought bitcoin in 2012, I would be rich now. The ‘then’ clause is from the SECOND CONDITIONAL: • If she had married him, she would be living in The Bahamas. We can also use other MODAL VERBS in the ‘then’ clause: • If I hadn’t worn my seatbelt, I could have died.
