*Not yet confirmed, but there’s a strong push to include Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) in the 8th Pay Commission*
Here’s where it stands as of Sept 2026:
1. *Current status*
- GDS are _not_ covered under the 7th Pay Commission. They’re classified as “extra-departmental employees” and their pay is set by separate departmental committees.
- For the 8th Pay Commission, inclusion of GDS is a *demand*, not a finalized decision yet. 72c5
2. *What’s been done so far*
- *MP demand*: In Nov 2025, MP Ambica G Lakshminarayana Valmiki wrote to PM Modi requesting inclusion of ∼2.75 lakh GDS under the 8th CPC.
- *Union demand*: All India Gramin Dak Sevaks Union (AIGDSU) passed a resolution on Dec 4, 2025, urging the govt to bring GDS under the 8th CPC purview.
- *Postal unions*: The Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO) submitted a memorandum to the 8th CPC on April 20, 2026, specifically demanding GDS inclusion.
- *NC-JCM proposal*: The Staff Side of the National Council of JCM included GDS in its Feb 2025 draft list of categories to be covered by the 8th CPC. a2c8b653f12da43f
3. *What this means for you*
- The 8th Pay Commission has been announcedand is required to submit recommendations by April 2027.
- If GDS are included, your salary would shift from the current TRCA systemto the Pay Matrix like regular postal employees.
- Right now, GDS salary is still based on the 7th CPC framework. Any change depends on the 8th CPC’s final Terms of Reference and govt approval. a43f72c509c7
*Bottom line*: GDS inclusion is being actively demanded and is listed in union proposals, but the govt hasn’t confirmed it in the ToR yet. The next 6-12 months are critical as the commission meets unions and finalizes recommendations.

*📢 GDS Rule 3 Transfer 2026 Update*
Based on previous transfer cycles and current departmental discussions, the next Rule 3 transfer notification is expected most likely in June 2026.
✅ 2024 Cycle → May
✅ 2025 Cycle → November
(APT 2.0 Online Process)
✅ 2026 Expected → June 2026 (Most Probable)
As of now, department has not officially released the notification. Employees are advised to keep documents and portal details ready for upcoming updates.
