All that matters is who is there on the day. Whether it's a demonstration, routine training with the boys, monthly meeting, whatever you're doing, what matters is who actually shows up on the day. Not the ones who told you they would be there, or who "had something come up", or "will join up soon/after I sort out [X]". Two castes of men, and the only one that matters is the man standing in front of you or next to you on the day.

If I advance, defended in the shadow of your shield, will you hold it at high-port before me? Will you bring down your man? And the next? For that is what it means to be a peer.
