There's only two times in the day when they truly feel connected to each other: when they're in the studio and hit a groove, or when the water's in the bowl.

all three are drinking more than they used to... but THIS kind of drinking. so it's fine!

William can tell Nancy and Carrie have grown closer over the years and he spends a lot of time refusing to notice that something about that makes him feel... not uneasy, but less-than-needed.

Carrie just cares about the music, so much that doing whatever it takes to keep the music going is worth it: and going in she was willing to cut either or both of the others out if that was what it took, but now she's unsure if the music itself could survive the absence of any of them.

Sweet William is the one who proposed the arrangement, and Nancy, his then partner, was immediately hesitant. But she's come to rely emotionally on Carrie even more than William does and she doesn't know how to feel about that, she thinks she's too old, and her life too complicated: she shouldn't have to start asking questions NOW dammit!
