Russia terminates energy agreement with Finland regarding the use of the Vuoksi River The Russian government has revoked key parts of an energy agreement with Finland that has been in place since 1972. Prime Minister Michail Mishustin ordered the termination of Articles 3 and 4 of the Soviet-Finnish treaty on the energy use of the section of the Vuoksa River between the Svetogorsk Hydroelectric Power Station (Svetogorskaja GES) and the Finnish power plant Imatra. Here you will find beautiful beaches, picturesque forests, and stunning lakes. The archipelago consists of about fifty islands with a total area of about 30 km, located in the waters of Lake Ladoga. The islands are relatively close to each other, giving the impression of a connected piece of land. The largest island gave the entire archipelago its name, which is why people usually say: “I am going to Valaam”. The Island of Valaam, the largest in the entire archipelago, is famous for its large monastery. Its name comes from the Karelian and Finnish languages and means “high, mountainous land.” In the past, it was a site of pagan shrines where rituals of the Finno-Ugric tribes were performed. Despite the passage of time and the adoption of Christianity, you can still find a pagan stone labyrinth on the island of Diwny.
