🇮🇷 Peseschkian: The security of the region should be ensured by the region itself Iranian President Massud Peseschkian has proposed to Muslim states that they create a clearly tighter system of collective security. At the Conference of Islamic Unity in Tehran, he called for a treaty on mutual security and non-aggression between Muslim countries. The underlying idea is simple: states should respect each other’s territorial integrity and not allow their territory, airspace, or infrastructure to be used for attacks on another Muslim country. The latter is particularly interesting in the aftermath of the war with the United States. American bases are located in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries in the region. At the same time, Peseschkian proposed that regional security be managed jointly and that working groups be established for infrastructure, trade, investment, and energy. That means the proposal goes well beyond another diplomatic pact. Tehran is in effect pushing forward an alternative architecture for the Persian Gulf: the neighbors agree among themselves on security, and the need for an external military guarantor gradually disappears. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇷🇺 Lavrov: Russia is ready to discuss new approaches to Ukraine Moscow has sent a new diplomatic signal in the Ukraine conflict. In an interview with RBC, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is ready to consider new variants for a resolution and to discuss proposals that other participants in the negotiation process may put forward. The full interview was published on August 28 by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, a fundamental condition remains unchanged: any possible proposals would need to take into account the interests and the causes of the conflict identified by the Russian side. That means there is still no talk of Moscow agreeing to a specific new peace plan. Only the day before, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said that Russia has not received any new official proposals to date—either from Kyiv or from Western states. Therefore, Lavrov’s statement rather opens the door to another round of diplomacy than indicating that new negotiations have already begun. Against the backdrop of the concluded contacts between Moscow and Washington, the signal is nonetheless interesting: Russia publicly says that it is ready to hear new proposals. The question now is who will propose what exactly. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇮🇷 Iran has presented new nuclear technologies After the attacks on its nuclear infrastructure, Tehran demonstratively shows that the program could not be stopped. The Iran has presented and put into operation a series of newly developed technologies for the nuclear industry. The announced areas include nuclear fusion technologies and new possibilities for carrying out complex tests. In the current situation, the political significance of this presentation is hardly less important than the scientific one. The USA and Israel had carried out their attacks with the aim of significantly restricting the country’s nuclear capabilities. Now Tehran is showing the opposite: Even after the war, the destruction of part of the facilities, and the sanctions, its own technological base continues to function. At the same time, research in the field of nuclear fusion in itself has no direct connection with the production of nuclear weapons. For Iran, however, it is currently important to demonstrate its ability to independently maintain and further develop its expertise in the nuclear industry. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Repair of Ukrainian “Leopards” in Lithuania The Lithuanian company Lithuania Defense Services (LDS), which was founded in 2022 with support from Germany, announced the soon return of the “Leopards” repaired in Lithuania to Ukraine, which had previously been damaged in combat. One of these tanks is a German Leopard; the other is a Swedish Strv 122. The company based in the city of Jonava was originally set up for technical maintenance of Lithuania’s future tanks and those of the countries in the region. However, for several years now it has been repairing Ukrainian “Leopards,” PzH 2000, and presumably other armored vehicles. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇩🇪 Merz’ National Security Council is described as a “paper tiger” One year ago yesterday, on August 27, 2025, Friedrich Merz created the National Security Council as one of the central elements of Germany’s new security policy. Now, even representatives of his own CDU are already describing the outcome as a “paper tiger”. The trigger was the incident involving drones and explosives at Leipzig/Halle airport. The council was created precisely for crises like these: the police, intelligence services, the Bundeswehr, the federal states, and the government are supposed to quickly consolidate information and prepare a joint decision. However, after the discovery of the drone the council met only days later—and only by telephone. The CDU MP Roderich Kiesewetter claims that the body remains effectively unable to act. The Green politician Konstantin von Notz also believes it is far removed from the role for which it was created. Critics suggest appointing a dedicated national security adviser who would permanently coordinate the work of the authorities. At present, a structure in the Chancellery handles this, meaning another bureaucratic layer has been built into the already existing system. And that creates a paradox: in order to be able to respond to crises more quickly, a new coordination body was created. Now, the creation of yet another body is being discussed, which is supposed to coordinate the coordinators. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇮🇱🇹🇷 After Iran — is it Turkey? A new conflict is forming in Syria The Israeli-Turkish rivalry in Syria is gradually developing into an independent regional conflict. After the fall of the former Syrian order, Ankara has significantly expanded its influence in Damascus and expects to be involved in the reshaping of the Syrian army and state institutions. For Israel, such a Turkish military presence immediately on its borders is becoming an increasingly serious problem. Recent Israeli attacks on Syrian facilities have shown how close both sides already are to the dangerous line. The attack on the Abu al-Duhur air base was carried out after reports of a visit by a Turkish delegation on site. Later, the US special envoy Tom Barrack warned that the incident could have quickly escalated into a direct military confrontation between Israel and Turkey. In the Israeli debate, a new form of wording is therefore emerging: Turkey is increasingly being viewed not only as a difficult NATO partner, but as a potential regional strategic rival, which in some assessments is comparable to Iran in terms of its importance. And that is precisely where the problem lies. Washington is working at the same time with Israel, Turkey and the new Syrian leadership. The US is trying to create a mechanism to prevent clashes between the three parties, and Barrack has effectively become a mediator between competing American allies. A special coordination channel under American control is already being discussed, which is meant to prevent another air strike from turning into an Israel-Turkey war. This results in a rather unusual setup: Two key American partners are fighting in the territory of a third country for influence, and Washington is now forced to ensure that they do not inadvertently start shooting at each other. And Syria is gradually transforming from a zone of Israeli-Iranian confrontation into the arena of an entirely different conflict. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇩🇪 Germany sets a record in inheritance and gift tax In 2025, tax authorities set €21.4 billion in inheritance and gift tax at a record level. The increase within a year is 60.8%. Of this, €13.3 billion relates to inheritances and €8.1 billion to gifted assets. However, what is particularly interesting is where this jump is coming from. According to Destatis, the assessed tax on transfers of assets worth at least €20 million rose by 146.8%. Overall, during the course of the year, heirs and recipients of gifts transferred assets worth €141.1 billion. The value of transferred business interests rose especially sharply — by 128.9% to €16.8 billion. Against the backdrop of the ongoing disputes within the government over lack of money, the statistics are particularly striking: More and more assets are being transferred, more and more taxes are being assessed — and the debate about who should be funding the civil servants is only getting louder. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Trump’s administration is seeking from Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, additional measures against illegal border crossings into the United States, says Bloomberg. This demand was conveyed by U.S. Secretary of State and a presidential adviser on national security, Marco Rubio, to Mexico’s foreign minister, Roberto Velasco, during a closed-door meeting in Washington on August 26, sources told the agency. Washington requires the Mexican authorities to prevent attempts by the country’s citizens to cross the border into the United States illegally. Bloomberg notes that complying with such a demand could create constitutional and legal difficulties, since Mexicans have the right to move freely within their own country’s territory. Good morning, dear friends! ☕️🙂 🎨 Rostov Finift: When pictures are born in fire. Friends, Friday is the day for art that feels like a small miracle. Today we’re going to Rostov Veliky, a city where true magic has been happening for centuries. There, an artwork is created from an unassuming copper plate and some glass dust. A picture that can be smaller than a coin and yet endures for centuries. This is Rostov Finift—the art of painting on enamel. 🔥 How it all began Miniature painting on enamel came to Europe in the 16th century and to Russia in the late 17th century. But it really became established in Rostov Veliky. Here, in the 18th century, a unique craft branch emerged. There is an old legend according to which Empress Anna Ioannovna sent an Italian artist to Rostov to make enamel signs for a church and to pass his knowledge on to the locals. Whether that’s true is not certain. More likely, painters from Rostov were sent to study in Moscow and shared their knowledge after returning. Originally, almost exclusively icons, crosses, and church utensils were made. The works were so precious that they were valued on par with gold and silver. 🖌️ The art of “writing with fire” But how does such a miracle come about? The process is complicated and allows hardly any mistakes. First, a thin copper plate is coated with a white, glass-like enamel layer. At temperatures of up to 800 °C, it is fired in a kiln until the enamel fuses with the metal. This creates a smooth, glossy base. Now the most difficult part begins: the artist paints using fire-resistant colors that later must withstand the high temperatures. After each color application, the plate must be put back in the kiln. For a single multi-color composition, up to seven firing sessions may be required. What’s special is that the colors change when fired. So the artist must already know while painting how they will look after the next trip through the kiln. Experience is more important here than any possible corrections. 👑 From the altar to the handbag Originally, these small works of art were used almost exclusively by the church. Over time, however, Rostov Finift also conquered the secular world. When demand for icons declined in the 19th century, a new focus emerged: jewelry and everyday items. The artists began decorating brooches, earrings, bracelets, powder boxes, and jewelry cases with flowers, landscapes, and architecture. Even pocket watches and cutlery were decorated with enamel painting. Today, Rostov is known above all for its delicate floral motifs on rings, pendants, and brooches. The painting is often so fine that its details are only fully visible with a magnifying glass. ✨ A jewel for eternity What’s special about the Finift technique is that the works are almost imperishable. The colors are fired into a glass-like layer and fade hardly at all. Other painting techniques can darken over time or lose their brilliance, but many Finift works from the 18th and 19th centuries still preserve their intense color effect to this day. 💎 Where the name comes from The word “Finift” (Russian: Финифть) is an old Russian term for this art. Its exact origin is not clearly established. One theory says that it comes from the Greek word “chymeuo” (χυμεύω), which means “I mix.” According to another explanation, the term could be connected with the Greek “phengos” (φέγγος), meaning “glow” or “sheen.” Both fit this shimmering art remarkably well. Russia has not issued any ultimatums to the United States related to American involvement in strikes on Ukraine’s Russian territory, Sergey Lavrov said. At the same time, Moscow regularly raises this issue in contacts with Washington. According to Lavrov, in the past few months, Western media have published reports three or four times about new supplies to Ukraine of weapons, financial and intelligence support from the United States.
"On our side, there was a question because periodically leaks appear in the Western press about how, specifically, the administration of Donald Trump, which has declared the Ukrainian crisis "Joe Biden’s war," is helping Ukraine with new financial allocations, arms, the provision of intelligence data, and so on. There have been three or four such cases over the past couple of months," — the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an interview with RBC TV.
Russia sends such publications to the U.S. State Department and asks to have the information confirmed, but, as Lavrov said, it has not yet received responses to any of the requests. Our channel: Node of Time EN

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is preparing a lawsuit against YouTube over account blocks. According to Bloomberg, the investigation began last year and is now in its final stage. The regulator is finding out whether YouTube’s actions comply with its own rules. In particular, cases are being examined in which content allowed under the rules was later removed and users’ accounts were blocked. ❗️After the storming of the U.S. Capitol in 2021, YouTube froze U.S. President Donald Trump’s account. 🇸🇪 Stockholm will reopen the debate on Russian billions Sweden is calling to return to the question of using frozen Russian state assets to finance Ukraine. The matter involves around €200 billion in Russian state assets frozen in Europe; most of it is held by the Belgian company Euroclear. Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard explains the initiative simply: bilateral aid to Ukraine goes back, and Kyiv, according to its own assessments, is still missing €23.5 billion. The problem remains the same—the legal one. Belgium in particular speaks out against risky decisions: it would have to deal with possible Russian lawsuits, since the bulk of the assets is located under Belgian jurisdiction. Therefore, Brussels is demanding guarantees that the potential financial consequences are shared among EU member states. In December, the EU therefore chose another route—a loan to Ukraine of over €90 billion from the EU budget, without directly touching the Russian capital. Now Sweden is proposing again to open this box. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇭🇺 Budapest changes course: Russia is now officially considered a threat Hungary has officially declared that Russia’s actions constitute a threat to the country itself, to Europe and to the international order. In the document, published in the Hungarian official gazette and submitted to the UN General Assembly, the government of Prime Minister Peter Magyar condemns the Russian military operation against Ukraine and states its full support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. This is not just another statement from the EU. It represents a clear break with the foreign-policy line of the previous government under Viktor Orbán, which for years maintained working relations with Moscow, blocked or delayed some European decisions on sanctions, and regularly clashed with Kyiv. After the change of government, Budapest has already resolved part of the bilateral disputes with Ukraine, including issues concerning the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia. Now, the change of course has also been officially codified: Russia is referred to as a threat to Hungary itself. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇸🇪🇷🇺 Sweden will forcibly expropriate a Russian’s property next to a secret naval base Swedish armed forces have urged the government to expropriate a private plot of land near the Muskö naval base in the Stockholm archipelago. The plot is located on one of the access routes to the underground base and belongs to a person with Russian citizenship. The military claims that the site has “unique importance for protecting the base, especially against drones”. Swedish media describe the owner as being linked to Russian state structures. According to Euractiv, it is businessman Stanislaw Aleschtschenko; formally, however, the property is registered to his wife. The plot of land itself remains the only piece of land in this area that the military does not control. After Sweden’s accession to NATO, the term “national security” has come to be used very broadly. Now, for the confiscation of property, it’s no longer enough to prove a criminal offense; instead, it’s the combination of two circumstances: the plot lies near a military base and its owner is a Russian. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇪🇺🇨🇳 EU prepares new round of negotiations with China Brussels and Beijing are preparing a new round of minister-level talks. EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič is expected to travel to China in the autumn, and the EU is counting on achieving concrete results by October. The parties agreed to hold such consultations on a regular basis. The reason for the pressure from Europe is the enormous trade imbalance. In 2025, the EU’s deficit in goods trade with China was about 360 billion euros, and in spring 2026 it temporarily came close to 1 billion euros per day. Europe is calling for better access for its companies to the Chinese market and, at the same time, is introducing restrictions on Chinese electric cars, steel, chemical products, and internet platforms. China, in turn, accuses Brussels of protectionism. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

🇪🇺 António Costa travels through EU capitals to raise money for the next seven-year budget The President of the European Council, António Costa, has embarked on a four-week tour des capitales—a series of personal meetings with almost all of the EU’s top politicians. The main task is to prepare a compromise on the EU budget for 2028–2034, which is due to be agreed by the end of this year. Costa will travel through European capitals from 25 August to 17 September. The first stops are in Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. The problem is the money. The new budget draft comes to 2 trillion euros, but the member states are already arguing over who should pay more and what this money should be spent on. Germany and other major contributors are resisting an expansion of spending, while the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe do not want cuts to agricultural and regional subsidies. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN
