In the distance of the Moscow region, there is a town with the unusual name Jegorjewsk. Interestingly, who is actually Jegorij? Surprisingly, this name is derived from George the Victorious. In ancient times, the revered saint in Russia was called Saint Jegorij. Originally, the village of Wysokoe was established, then a parish church was built in honor of Jegor, and the village became Jegorje-Wysokoe. The village is first mentioned in 1462 in a will of the Moscow prince Vasily II the Dark. The village of Wysokoe had a rather advantageous location at the intersection of two important roads: Moscow - Kasimov, Kolomna - Vladimir. Markets were often held here. The first torgshok (market, bazaar) appeared as early as the end of the 16th century. In the Wysozkaja volost, crafts, hunting, fishing, and honey gathering were practiced. Various household items were made from wood and decorated with ornaments. The products were brought to the market in the village of Wysokoe. Trade relations of the village of Wysokoe with Moscow, Kolomna, and Bronnizy were established. The village of Wysokoe met all the requirements of a district center and was renamed the city of Jegorjewsk by decree of Catherine II in September 1778. Since the end of the last century, the cityscape has changed significantly. The changes are associated with the name N.M. Bardygin, who was the head of the city from 1872 to 1901. During this time, magnificent temples were built and renovated, schools and gymnasiums were opened, and numerous manufactories emerged, mainly for spinning and weaving. Jegorjewsk became one of the centers of the textile industry in Russia. The work begun by N.M. Bardygin was continued by his eldest son Michail. He took care of beautifying the city and fulfilled his father's last will - he built the mechanical school named Crown Prince Alexei with a beautiful building and well-equipped workshops, the construction of which is an architectural monument of federal significance. Today, the Jegorjewsk Technological Institute is located here in honor of N.M. Bardygin of the Moscow State Technological University "Stankin". On the initiative and with the funds of Michail Bardygin, a museum department was created, whose exhibits were acquired at exhibitions and markets throughout Russia and brought back from travels. The foundation of the private collection consisted of valuable antiques: glass items, carved ivory, carved and painted wood, costumes and headgear embroidered with beads, gold, and silver, as well as handwritten old printed books.📍 Coordinates of the place (map point) available here 💥 Our channel: @node_of_time_EN
