HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL is calling on students to participate in the international student competition for short videos about cities. Dragon Boat Festival 🐲 On 7 June, the Atrium on Pokrovsky Boulevard hosted the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday symbolising the onset of summer. The festival is traditionally celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. According to legend, this day is the date of death of the great Chinese politician and poet Qu Yuan, who served as a minister at court and devoted his life to poetry reflecting his love for his homeland. He could not bear the news that the kingdom of Chu had fallen to the onslaught of Qin, so he threw himself into the Miló River. The common people, who loved the poet, travelled by boat down the river in search of the deceased's body - hence the name of the festival and the traditions and rituals associated with it.
