Hello, guysss I'm sorry I was inactive for about two weeks, but I've been in Uzbekistan for the past 7 days. I've been quite busy with documentation stuff, people to meet, and so on. However, today I had the chance to meet with someone incredible that I used to communicate with a lot on social media but not in real life. After my 3-hour talk with Asalkhon Sharipova, I can say that she is the true definition of beauty and brains. She also brought some cultural souvenirs for me, and I'm going to take them back with me to the US🥹. The talk with Ann was really amaziiing. We talked a lot about our educations and exchanged perspectives. It was interesting to learn about the differences and similarities between our school experiences. It was a great conversation that has given me a lot to think about regarding my own education and future. What about you all? What's new in your lives? How are your finals going? For the record, I finished my first year with a 3.9/4.0, which is somewhere between good and bad.

The last shots from a freshman year, a sophomore now. My freshman year has been so good, but difficult. Learned so many things, found new true friends, and more importanltly gained independence-emotionally, financially, personally, haha. Even thought about changing my major, but no, Journalism is the best for me, in the 2nd-to-last picture you can see me pretending to be a journalist in front of the green screen, while posing for a photo. Still haven’t finished that one book by Dostoevsky, watching TVD for the 2nd time instead. Also, things that are happening with the protestors aint going good, but we hope for the best… @withmohinur

Even after receiving 3+ suggestions to revise my 16-page research paper, which literally equals 35% of my final grade, I submitted it without revising according to the professor's feedback. I'm not even thinking about finals, or feeling like I am well-prepared, or who knows. I'm not even fighting for A's like I did last semester, but my confidence to get an A in all of my classes is at its highest level. I am adding Spanish as my second minor, while having Journalism as my major, Global Studies as my secondary major, and Political Science as a minor, even though I hate classes that require attendance. Now I am counting the days to go back to Uzbekistan, just like the way I counted them to come to America and make my ‘merican dream come true. It's already 1 pm, and I already need to sleep because tomorrow is the last day of uni, but I am writing this so-called something here. I think it's all part of being a teenager, or again, who knows🙂‍↕️

Current Values Are Killing Us ‘It is okay to spend 50$ on Zara but it is a waste of money to spend 200k sums on travel’ This month as a month of self-care and exploration I spent a lot of time traveling and reading. However, you know that I have spent exactly the same amount of money as a middle-class person would buying shoes and one dress from a brand. I cannot understand how is it that traveling is an irrational waste of money whereas buying designer clothes is an investment. A lot of people whom I meet on day-to-day social meetings are dressed so well, wear statement jewelry but when asking about their live they tell me that they have not seen anything further than shopping mall and tashkent city. Wow, I say being scared. I understood that enrichment of life comes as equally from books, p.s I call them transmitters of experience, as it is from travel. Travel is expensive- no it is not. I went on a Mountain hiking for 200k, to Samarkand for 300k and people tell me I am waisting money?! The true waste of money is when you spend it to show it to other people. Today I decided to see the hype around Zara. Guys, just a regular piece of medium-quality material nothing much. I looked at one simple shirt- it was 300k- the same that I spent to travel to a whole new city Samarkand. And still people have the audacity to say that travel is for rich. No travel is for mindful people who live for themselves not for others to see. Yes, I may not be dressed very well, yes I do not have beautiful nails, yes I do not do fake lash extensions or plump limps. Why- I am okay of being who I am. I am not striving to be a model to have perfect parameters. I realized that people will anyway leave you despite your outer look. It is you expression, your vision of experiences and your inner world that keeps attention long-term. Rethink your spendings. May be the time has come to cut off on clothes at least 1 month? You will see the differences once you start investing in your inner self. @asalkhon_sharipova

Yesterday on Instagram, it was noteworthy to see Motaz Azaiza heading to Columbia and NYU with Edward Said's daughter. Today, students at UArizona also organized #FreePalestine sessions throughout the whole campus, calling for a ceasefire. Proud of them. #ForPalestine #ForHumanity

Growing up, I always had a strong desire for education. Witnessing girls around me getting married at a young age made me feel ungrateful for being born female. However, my parents were different. They valued my education and encouraged me to study. I started school at the age of six and graduated before I even turned 17. At twelve, I began learning English. However, choosing a career path was challenging. My family had a restrictive mindset towards girls' ambitions, and we also had the "you are a girl, know your limits" mindset in our family. I had a strong desire to study at IELTS Zone, inspired by a friend studying there. Unfortunately, my parents disapproved because I was a girl. Nevertheless, I continued my studies, and the American dream started to take hold of me. Late at night, while everyone was sleeping, I applied to various universities. Eventually, I received an acceptance letter from UA and informed my parents about the scholarship offer. I set aside some money for myself, but considering the financial constraints of many families in Uzbekistan, investing such a significant sum in my education was a challenge, especially with two younger brothers in the family. Despite their reservations, I expressed my intention to apply for EYUF (explained what EYUF is as well). They reluctantly agreed, although deep down, they remained skeptical about my chances of winning. I went through the rigorous selection process of EYUF, passing the initial steps and making it to the interview stage, which took place on May 24, just one day before my school graduation. Graduating with a gold medal didn't matter much to me; all I awaited were the results of EYUF or the possibility of studying at WIUT. However, EYUF didn't announce the results until I received a call from an unknown number on July 14th. On July 15th, I discovered that I had emerged as a winner. I had won El-Yurt, the opportunity I had been hoping for. It was the day I realized that my American dream was turning into a reality. Even after winning EYUF, convincing my father to let me go to the US remained a challenge. He still preferred that I study at WIUT. Nonetheless, with the efforts of my mother, she managed to persuade him to agree to my aspirations of studying in the US. It has been a long journey, and now, I'm about to finish my freshman year within a week. The American dream and winning El-Yurt are no longer just dreams. I share this story because I receive messages from girls facing similar challenges almost every day. Girls, I've been in your shoes. Just because your parents may not initially support your dreams doesn't mean you can't achieve them. If it's meant to be, no one can take away your destiny. Never stop pursuing your dreams. #thoughts @withmohinur
