As a recent college freshman, I've learned a lot in a short amount of time. Reflecting on my experience, there are several things I wish I had known before embarking on this journey. Whether you're about to start your college adventure or are already knee-deep in textbooks, here are some key points to keep in mind:
Open Uzbek Visa/Uzcard:
Ensure you have your Uzbek visa sorted out before leaving for college, and don't forget to bring them. Having these essentials will make settling into your new environment much smoother. It is really hard to transfer money between uzbek and american banks. It is better to have uzbek physical cards with you even though you're gonna obtain an american cards.
Prepare Yourself Academically:
College academics can be challenging, so it's essential to prepare yourself mentally and academically. Reviewing key concepts from high school and familiarizing yourself with college-level expectations can help ease the transition.
Improve Social Skills:
College is not just about academics; it's also about forming connections and building relationships. Work on improving your social skills, such as communication, empathy, and networking, to thrive in various social settings.
Pack Wisely:
When packing for college, resist the urge to bring your entire wardrobe, especially summer clothes. Opt for quality over quantity, and remember that you can always purchase additional items once you arrive on campus. (You can also bring snacks/national clothes and items/medicine)
Apply for Campus Jobs in Advance:
Securing a campus job can provide valuable work experience, financial stability, and networking opportunities. Don't wait until you arrive on campus to start looking; apply for positions in advance to increase your chances of landing a job.
Check Your College Email:
Your college email is your gateway to important information and updates. Be sure to regularly check your inbox and read all instructions sent by your adviser or dean. Staying informed will help you stay on top of deadlines, events, and other campus-related matters.
Don't Be Afraid:
It's natural to feel nervous or apprehensive about starting college, but remember that you are capable of handling whatever challenges come your way. Believe in yourself, stay positive, and embrace this new chapter with confidence.
Transitioning to college can be both exciting and overwhelming, but by keeping these points in mind, you'll be better prepared to navigate the ups and downs of campus life. So, take a deep breath, embrace the journey ahead, and remember that you've got this!
