I've always thought direct flights were expensive, so I never looked into them. This belief stuck with me for years. However, on my recent trip to Doha, I decided to check Qatar Airways tickets for a direct flight, and to my surprise, they were much cheaper than I expected. My round-trip ticket cost only $490, while my previous one-way tickets were $420 and $310, respectively. This was a pleasant surprise. Generally, I don't like layover flights unless the layover is at an interesting airport like Istanbul or if I'm traveling with a buddy. Layovers in a dull airport, especially when traveling alone, can be a drag. So far, my best flying experience has been with Qatar Airways direct flights. They offer nice meals, pillows, unlimited entertainment, comfortable headphones, and attentive staff. In contrast, when I flew with lower-tier airlines like FlyDubai and Air Arabia, the seats were uncomfortable, entertainment and headphones were paid, and the staff took forever to attend to requests. If I were to rank the airlines I've flown with so far, it would look like this: 1. Qatar Airways 2. Turkish Airlines 3. Uzbekistan Airways 4. Belavia 5. Air Arabia 6. FlyDubai PS.
