A young woman at a communal backcourt sink at 50 Crown St, Gorbals, 1925. The door behind her is that of the toilet. Outside toilets were common in Glasgow tenements until the late c19th. Even though c20th tenements were subsequently built with a WC on each landing, a chilly trip to the outside loo was still the experience for many. Glasgow Museums
