Basic Knowledge of Cooling Tower
In industrial plants, the cooling tower is a very important utility equipment. It removes heat from process equipment and recirculates cooled water back into the system. To understand the performance of a cooling tower, knowledge of some basic formulas is essential.
🔹 Cooling Tower Range
Range is the difference between hot water temperature and cold water temperature.
Formula: Range = Tₕₒₜ − T_cₒₗd
🔹 Cooling Tower Approach
Approach shows how close the cold water temperature is to the wet bulb temperature.
Formula: Approach = T_cₒₗd − T_wetbulb
🔹 Cooling Tower Efficiency
Efficiency indicates how effectively the cooling tower is performing.
Formula: Efficiency = Range / (Range + Approach) × 100
🔹 Heat Load (Heat Removed)
This formula calculates the amount of heat removed by the cooling tower.
Formula: Q = m × Cp × (Tₕₒₜ − T_cₒₗd)
🔹 Cooling Tower TR Calculation
Cooling capacity can also be calculated in TR (Ton of Refrigeration).
Formula: TR = Flow × (Tₕₒₜ − T_cₒₗd) / 3024

I am J.Rokesh vara prasad.
I completed my B.Tech in 2022 and joined MADE EASY offline coaching in the same year to prepare for competitive exams.
I appeared for GATE 2023 in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and secured an AIR of 2983. In the Production and Industrial Engineering (PI) paper, I secured AIR 100. Through my PI rank, I got admission to M.Tech in Thermal Engineering at IIT Madras.
During my M.Tech, I continued my preparation and appeared for GATE 2024, securing AIR 1831 in ME. With this rank, I received a call for the NPCIL interview and scored 56 marks, but I was not selected in the final list. In the same year, I was also shortlisted for the BARC interview but could not make it to the final selection.
In 2025, while completing my thesis, I appeared for GATE again and secured AIR 1220 in ME. After completing my M.Tech, I attended the NPCIL interview again and improved my performance by scoring 67 marks. However, I narrowly missed the final selection, as the cutoff was 69 marks. I was also shortlisted for the BARC interview in 2025 but could not attend it due to personal reasons. Additionally, I received an interview call from NCL through GATE 2024 but was not selected.
During my final phase of M.Tech, I attended multiple campus placement drives, but unfortunately, I was not successful, mostly getting eliminated in the HR rounds.
After completing my M.Tech in 2025, I decided to focus seriously on ISRO ICRB and GATE 2026. My hard work paid off, as I secured AIR 42 in Mechanical Engineering in GATE 2026. I have also been shortlisted for ISRO and recently attended an interview with NALCO through GATE 2025, for which I am awaiting results. Additionally, I am waiting for NTPC results through GATE 2025.

Sorry sir for late reply
Actually I was waiting for my joining
Sir due to Covid batch and as laterial entry in btech ,not about selection I even not allowed to sit in many college campus interviews 😔
It hurts me a lot and I was confused that time after studying one of the best govt University of odisha still I have no job so I went to near my spritual guru and asked him what can I do then he told to stay on the technical field and preparing for gate
Then Sir I was started my preparation for gate from 2021 joining made easy prime batch but some how I unable to complete syllabus,so i am unable to clear gate 2022
Then i appear gate 2023 secured 7000 rank after that I felt down and also I gave up from technical exam and I thought to prepare for non tech but some how my mind didn't stable that time after preparing 3 month for non tech I thought I couldn't do well in non tech exams and also that time I remembered about my spiritual guru's word to stay on technical field so again from month of September 2023 I started my preparation for gate 2024
Due to blessings of God sir I secured AIR 2281 in gate 2024 .
I thought again I failed and I will not get anything on this score .
But I was happy as my rank is improved so much from 7000 to 2281 .
But this gate result changed my life totally I got offer mtech from different iits like iit Delhi, iit Guwahati, iit kgp
Also interview call from PSUs like BARC, BHEL, NPCIL,IOCl and NLC .
Finally i joined NLC .
During my journey I failed many times in psu cbt exam just for 2 or 3 marks .
For gate preparation I will say like my seniors focus on class notes , pyqs , workbooks is best for securing ranks .
For psu exams yct book ,rk jain , and class notes
One things sir I learned that to have to prepare consistently.
And last one mistake i want to share during my preparation journey i did , after completing my coaching i prepared only without joining for mtech and any other pvt industries but it's important to be financial independent after age of 25 perticularly in middle class family otherwise half of time during preparation will wasted on depression. I am realising now also if I engaged some where after my full time coaching and syllabus completed then sure I may secured some good ranks in gate .

SARAGADAM GANESH
AIR-50
70.67 MARKS
Started preparing for gate in 2020...due to COVID I couldn't attend any classes so followed unacademy free classes and got 10k rank in 2021. Again prepared myself for 2022 got 5k rank. Thought this preparation can't get me into psu.so came to Hyderabad joined made easy for GATE 2023, got 2658 rank. since i was 21 passed out so got depressed and not in a position to take drop and waste one more year. I came to know about my mistakes and told my parents about this. They told me to take decision wisely so that I shouldn't regret again.meanwhile I got shortlisted for hpcl and BARC scientist interviews through separate exams not through gate. These two interviews boosted my confidence to take one more year drop and work hard for it and achieved this rank...
2021- 43marks- 10k
2022- 41- 5k
2023- 45- 2658
Hpcl- gt cleared but couldn't clear pi round
BARC SOc- interview duration 58mins- but couldn't make it to final list
As the selection ratio is less. So i didn't expect
my name in final list.
2024-
Hpcl- written cleared- but didn't attend gt and pi
BARC- Technical officer- written cleared-interview 53 mins- result awaiting
BARC- Stipendary trainee- written cleared- interview 45mins- result awaiting
GATE- 70.67marks- AIR50
ISRO scintist- written cleared- waiting for interview call
NPCIL- interview shortlisted-result awaiting
BARC SOc-interview was not so good again couldn't make it into final list
Above mentioned are just for the reference who thought gate is just an exam and can clear within one year. It may take time but if u workhard u can get it in one year otherwise it will take time..but u will get it if u give wholehearted efforts towards whatever u r preparing for.
Coming to my preparation strategy
Made easy class notes-workbook-test series-pyqs (4-5 times before gate).and in made easy telegram group students post good questions better if u spend 30 mins in telegram once in everyday..if u think that is tough question save it and try to solve it till u get the concept behind it.
The reason why I took these many years is that I am from diploma background in which I didn't studied mathematics and it is important subject. Even in technical questions u will find mathematical relations. Which took a lot of time to learn. I was an Average student. Previously I have studied only concept then came to know that gate requires concept, problem solving and time management. Learned about it through my 3 attempts and made it in my 4th attempt. Hope this helps many students struggling like me. All the best lot of PSUs are waiting for u. Prepare hard give ur best.

Repost from ASHCHARYA BANSAL
So, let's start from the beginning. When I was in 11th and 12th class, I wanted to join IIT. I prepared for the IIT JEE exam for two years but could not achieve a good rank. Despite all my hard work, I attempted the exam again, but the result remained the same. Despite performing very well in coaching classes and tests, I couldn’t secure a good rank this year either. In the meantime, due to my proficiency in mathematics, I always wanted to join the Indian Statistical Institute's BMath course. However, I forgot to fill out the form by mistake in 2017. Instead, I appeared for BCECE (Entrance exam for admission to Bihar state government colleges) where I secured the 79th rank. I joined Bhagalpur College of Engineering. After joining, I forgot to focus on my studies and indulged in a lot of fun activities like bunking classes to play volleyball. Time passed swiftly during my BTech years.
Now, the third year has arrived, and I realized that I need to start preparing for the GATE exam. I joined Made Easy Delhi Batch B in February 2020, but unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our plans. By then, Som were completed, and Amrender sir had started teaching thermodynamics. Due to the pandemic, coaching had to shut down, and Made Easy provided us with online recorded lectures. However, I didn't enjoy studying in offline mode, so I decided to skip that year and keep it idle. I took the GATE exam casually and scored 26.46, which was below the cutoff marks of 33.
I returned to Delhi in February 2021 again, but our classes only ran for a few days before being closed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. I had no choice but to switch to online mode. This time, I prepared rigorously. Along with completing my course, I attempted a large number of test series. Despite my hard work, I scored 42.83 marks and got a rank of 4779. I felt highly demotivated, but with encouragement from my friend, I decided to give it another shot.
So, I started my preparation with renewed energy. During the preparation for GATE 2023, I attempted many exams like BARC, HAL, NMDC, and SSC JEE, but couldn't qualify for any of them. However, I didn't let the failures dishearten me, and I continued my preparation. In December 2023, I appeared for the DRDO written exam and qualified for the interview. Although the written exam went well, I got rejected in the interview.
Then came GATE 2023. This time, I was confident that I would surely get a rank under 500. However, I ended up with a rank(ME) of 1339 with 51.67 marks and secured 274th rank in XE with 61.67 marks. I received a call for admission from IIT Kanpur, but I decided to join ISI Kolkata in the Qror branch. I joined ISI in August and was busy with my academic and coursework. Whenever I got time, I tried to keep in touch with mechanical engineering.
After the semester break in December 2023, I had one month to prepare. I seized the opportunity, but this time, I didn't feel much pressure during the GATE paper. The day finally arrived, which I had been waiting for three years. On March 16th, I checked the result, and to my astonishment, I found out that I had secured the 241st rank.

Repost from ASHCHARYA BANSAL
I have given interviews of ESE ,IISc along with ONGC , IOCL , BPCL (college and gate) , EIL ,BARC , ISRO (college and written) and have been selected in all except my first one ;)
So lets start with a failure
First interview : Isro where I panicked in the beginning and needless to say the result . I had prepared for interview by memorizing the introductions and favorite topic and project.
Then what went wrong ?? I could not deliver properly and my confidence got a hit and I panicked.
Lesson learnt : Be calm , composed and when a question is thrown at you ,never reply instantly . Think for some 4–5 seconds (the wait time should not become uneasy ) ,frame an answer start or think of concepts to be told and then start the answer . If you don't know , then also this thing shows that you tried to give attempt . If no answer comes in your mind , you can say sorry sir , I don't know about this but will learn about it (In future learn it as it will help you in other interviews ). This helped me as my answers were more organized and framed as compared to instant answers.
Then never bluff much or if want to say something that you are not confident , " sorry sir , I don't know the exact answer but I can guess if you allow ." If yes tell the explanation and its reasoning.
Then comes the part , " Be Yourself " or try to " Be Ideal " . So what makes you ideal for the Company ?? A company wants a dedicated but practical and thinking person . So whatever you say , there should be layers or at least one layer of reasoning to it .
Timeline of a Interview
• Introduction : You start with a series of points to start the discussion and make yourself comfortable. A brief intro covers cllg , birthplace, degree branch , college city , family .These will pose some questions . You have to think what can be asked from these keywords and if possible google them like meaning of your name .
• Prepare Company specific points.
The important subject for that company like Oil psus - chairman , its revenue , some award , welfare schmes , technical working and the subjects knowledge important for them are to be covered specifically like fluid machinery , ic engines .
Why do you want to join a company ?
What will you offer to company or Why should we hire you ?
Some recent news of the company and dont forget to watch the company video on YouTube and its website which itself will give you answers for above questions.
• Also learn the Important Subjects and their application and how it is useful in daily life . Technical subjects ( first priority to be given to subjects which are important for their applications , and then all basic laws and definitions of all subjects ) .
If the interviewer asks you 2–3 questions from the subject you are uncomfortable ,you can tell " Sorry sir , I have not prepared this subject well . But I have prepared these ….subjects well . " Because instead of wasting time of your interview for questions you dont know , you should use the time for questions you know . Example - An interview with - 10 question ( unanswered or wrong) with 15 questions answered well does not seem appealing compared with an interview with 4 questions ( unanswered including an apology) and 18 questions answered .
• Theory of your Projects / Training , problems faced and how you overcame them by using your strengths and their application in Present or future .
Always remember , the interviewer mostly comes empty and as you give answers he through reasoning digs out new questions which becomes difficult for us . So you should know what you know well and then after thinking give answers ( layers of reasoning ) . That's why mock interviews are important as you may always look from a same angle but others may help you in looking other important points.
• Write some Strengths to tell and incidents to support them . Also prepare for weakness ( makes you human :D ) and tell a strategy like how you are tackling it .
• Make some hobbies to tell or prepare some layers of questions to tell about hobbies and why these hobbies help you.
