"Preparation Strategy for HPCL Exam To prepare for the HPCL exam, I allocated 1-2 hours daily for non-technical portions and utilized the remaining time to revise class notes and previous year's questions (PYQs) of ESE. I also made it a point to revise the material repeatedly. Additionally, I enrolled in the Made Easy test series for the HPCL exam, which greatly aided me in time management and non-technical portions. I took the mock tests at the same time as the scheduled exam, approximately three weeks prior. Group Discussion (GD) Tips During the GD, the topic was centered around a large petroleum corporation modernizing its petrol pumps in rural areas. We were required to suggest a strategy for this initiative. My advice for the GD round is to speak clearly and confidently, highlighting 3-4 key points. This approach will help you clear this round. It's also essential to maintain eye contact with the panel members, but avoid staring at them intensely. Personal Interview (PI) Experience During the PI, I faced a panel of 12 members. The interview began with a brief introduction, so it's crucial to ensure your introduction is concise and to the point. The panel then inquired about my decision to leave my previous job, which was a high-paying position in an upstream oil and gas production company. I provided a clear and logical explanation for my decision. The panel also asked questions based on my CV and general HR-related queries, such as whether I would be willing to accept a posting in a remote location. If you have prior work experience, be prepared to answer questions related to your job. If you lack work experience, focus on thoroughly preparing your technical subjects, including topics like thermodynamics, power plants, and heat and mass transfer."

I come from diploma background, I bought standard books to prepare from scratch, standard books used to take lot of time and very less output, by the time I understood that I graduated in 2022, with nothing in my hand and just merely passed the Gate-2022. After that I worked in a solar based company for 8 months, then after that I joined the madeeasy prime batch in March 2023, After each subject got covered we were told by the faculties that revise on the same day, solve Workbooks, PYQ's & make short notes parallel, also do parallel revison of the subjects previously completed so that they don't vaporize from mind. I followed the same approach till November, but in the months of December and January when the classes got over I couldn't handle the pressure, Result : Gate-2024 ME- Rank 4847 XE - Rank 547 I had better expectations from Gate ME But due to not being able to handle the pressure and not working on weaknesses in the last 2 months I made lot of mistakes in Gate ME and completely messed it up. I wasn't expecting anything from XE due to that gave it calmly. To my knowledge later scored better in XE compared to ME, ( I learned that time taking pressure makes things even worse ) Anyways, by joining RI batch 2024, I resumed my preparation in June with the batch, along with that I applied in winter session for IITM as I was in the preparation mode & in touch with the concepts, could take some time out for preparation of MS interviews, prepared SOP's on area of interest for research, made notes for interview side by side in a copy prepared maths and technical on daily basis, was preparing for gate and interviews in parallel in the October month. Finally could convert it into selection. Thanks to all the faculties for guidance and support. I'm glad that I joined RI batch to resume the preparation, that ultimately helped me be in touch with the subjects and therefore being able to crack the written & interview.
