On this day, January 18, 80 years ago, during the offensive operation Iskra, the ring of the fascist blockade of Leningrad was broken. The heroism and courage of teachers and students, graduates of the Polytechnic University are inscribed in the history of the Great Patriotic War with bright pages. Three thousand polytechnics went to the front as volunteers. Graduates and employees of the university made an invaluable contribution to the creation of weapons of Victory. The residents of besieged Leningrad also went down in history as real heroes. They showed the world an unprecedented feat of endurance – unprecedented because in the entire history of mankind, there was probably no more such case that a besieged city lasted almost 900 days and nights. Will we start this week with interesting and breakthrough news? 😉 👨‍🔬 Polytech scientists have developed a new drug that may help to cope with Alzheimer's disease in the future. Alzheimer's disease is accompanied by significant memory loss as a result of the destruction of contacts between neurons. 🧠 In the research, experts identified the compound and managed to aim it at the target molecule, activating and changing its function. The drug was tested on mice with memory impairments. With intraperitoneal injection into the body, the substance successfully overcomes the blood-brain barrier separating the circulatory and central nervous systems, penetrating to brain cells, and had a positive effect. The authors of the development will continue testing. The next stage will be an analysis for toxicity and mutagenicity. After laboratory experiments, it will be possible to proceed to clinical trials. #polytechscience

700 best students of St. Petersburg meet at Polytechnic University for the VII Governor's Ball It was beautiful! 🤩 On the 21st of December, the Governor’s New Year’s Student Ball took place in the White Hall of the University. 🥰 Posh evening gowns and dinner jackets, historical dances and classical music — one of the most long-awaited and atmospheric events of the year struck again with its grandiosity and scale. ❄️ More than 700 students of the universities and colleges of St. Petersburg have received invitations to the New Year’s Ball at Polytechnic university this year. All of them have shown excellent results and achievements in their studies, creativity, sports and social activities in the past year. Photos from the ball 👉 here

There is a place in our university where students come before the exams 🤔 ⠀ It is a monument right next to the 1st educational building — Eternal Student — an intelligent, silent young man, who is holding a book and seems to be very concentrated (the teachers must be dreaming of such students). The bronze sculpture of a polytechnic, dressed in early twentieth-century uniform, will help you pass your exams: you just have to sit next to him ✨ ⠀ Also, you can perform a series of actions in order to get a desirable grade: 🟢 To get an excellent grade on the exam you need to jump over the sculpture’s legs; 🟢 For a good grade you need to wipe the bronze shoes of a young man with a handkerchief; 🟢 If you want just a satisfactory grade then touch the book of Eternal Student. ⠀ But be careful: it is said that you can spot the bench empty at night… 👻 ⠀ Anyway, we are sure that all of you will successfully complete your exams!
