We should stop asking what Europe can do for Switzerland and instead we should consider what Switzerland can do to help the construction of the EU. Indeed if Europe fails in the near future Switzerland will not be well-preserved from the collateral damages. The European Union has been present since after the Second World War but the logic of a developing federalization is presently clogged. The European Union does not enjoy the appropriate culture, something which comes naturally for Switzerland. Born in Brussels in 1931 Jacques Neirynck has Swiss, French and Belgium citizenship. In 1954, he obtained his diploma as an Electrical Engineer and became a Doctor of Sciences at Universite Catholique de Louvain in 1958. Since 1972, he has been a Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne where he holds the Chair for Circuits and Systems. He was named Professor Emeritus in 1996. Professor Neirynck has been engaging in the consumer movement in Belgium, France and Switzerland, among other things by leading several journals on the topic and by contributing to numerous radio and TV shows. In 1999, he was elected National Councilor in the federal parliament and became a member of two parliamentary committees: Science / Education / Culture and Transport / Telecommunications. He has been reelected for two further legislations and has also become a member of the Grand Council at Canton de Vaud in 2012. He has been an editor and assistant chief of the monthly "La Politique" for the last two years. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
