| 10 | FIIs were net sellers in the cash market on September 8, offloading equities worth ₹123 crore. FII activity has moderated significantly over the last two trading sessions.
Meanwhile, the FII long-short ratio in index futures improved marginally to 11.07% on September 8, compared with 10.93% in the previous trading session. However, short buildup has been evident in index futures over the last ten trading sessions, indicating continued bearish positioning among foreign investors.
On Tuesday, the benchmark Nifty extended its downward trajectory, declining 0.61% to close at 23,635, marking its lowest closing level since June 2026. On the daily chart, the index formed a sizeable bearish candle, reflecting sustained selling pressure throughout the session.
Technically, the index continues to trade comfortably below its key moving averages, with these averages maintaining a downward slope, signalling a weak intermediate-term trend. Momentum indicators also remain firmly bearish. The Daily RSI slipped to 30.88 and continues to decline, highlighting oversold conditions but offering no clear signs of a reversal yet. The MACD remains in negative territory, trading below both its signal line and the zero line. Notably, the MACD histogram has remained below the zero line for the past 18 trading sessions, underscoring persistent weakness in market sentiment.
Going forward, the 23,770–23,800 zone is expected to act as an immediate hurdle for the index. As long as Nifty sustains below the 23,800 mark, the prevailing bearish trend is likely to remain intact. In this scenario, the index could continue its southward journey and test the 23,500 level, followed by the next crucial support around 23,350 in the short term.
A sustained move above 23,800 would be required to ease the immediate downside pressure and signal the possibility of a relief pullback.
