An official inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. Commissioned in April 2000, the INS Brahmaputra is a first-of-its-class indigenously built guided missile frigate, manned by 40 officers and 330 sailors. The ship is equipped with a variety of weaponry, including medium and close range guns, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, and torpedo launchers.
