UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt. General Aroldo Lázaro: “Today, I visited UNIFIL peacekeepers in a position near Al Hinniyah in southwest Lebanon. After nearly nine months of exchanges of fire, I remain proud of their dedication to de-escalating tensions, restoring security and stability, and supporting local communities.”

Today, a Lebanese Foreign Affairs Committee delegation visited UNIFIL. Lt. General Aroldo Lázaro emphasized the need for de-escalation. Committee Chair Fadi Alameh reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to Resolution 1701. UNIFIL and humanitarian agencies met in Shama, southwestern Lebanon, to discuss security and support for local communities affected by ongoing violence across the Blue Line. UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt. General Aroldo Lázaro: “Today, I met with mayors from the Union of Al Qalaa municipalities in Tibnin, south Lebanon. We discussed the current situation amidst the exchanges of fire along the Blue Line and local needs. We appreciate their support for UNIFIL as we continue to work to restore stability.”

Peacekeepers continue to coordinate closely with the Lebanese Armed Forces, working to support them and enhance their capabilities. It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of General Claudio Graziano, who served as UNIFIL's Head of Mission and Force Commander from 2007 to 2010.
