❓ What is the proper way to evaluate what to build into social games today, given that the ecosystem has changed greatly in the last year? (P2) ✅ Consider the cost of production: Successful games can take 7 to 9 people 3 to 4 months to build, and that's if the team knows what they're doing. If you're new to the space, increase your development time by at least 1 to 2 months. Social games may look simple but they're anything but simple to operate successfully. The hard work *really* begins when the game is released and you have to make it a commercial success (positive, sustainable cash flow). ✅ Focus on a niche market: That's my advice for a small game studio (which it sounds like you are). If you have 250 to 500K to develop and market your game, I'd suggest using it to build a niche product. A game with deep mechanics and gameplay. Good luck! You'll need some of this too.

(P1) ✅ You need to be fairly well capitalized: At the very minimum you need 100 to 150K to market your game (not including your development and hosting costs). The type of game you're going to make needs to make more money than it will cost to market and maintain it. (read that last sentence again) ✅ Build a minimum viable product: Release your game as fast as you can with only the core features. Do not polish it to perfection. I'm serious: do not make it perfect! You'll run out of money faster than you think. You need immediate market validation and feedback (consider 1 to 2 months to iterate and determine if you have a viable product). If you're still iterating the game 2 to 3 months after release and it's not sustainable then consider killing the product. To be continued …
