| 2 | A MAJOR WINTER FUNDRAISING FOR ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN FIGHTERS
Another harsh winter awaits us. According to many forecasts, it will be the hardest one yet, even compared to last year. Mass shelling has already caused power outages and disruptions to water supplies, communications, and heating. That is why supporting one another is more important than ever.
But no matter how many years this war lasts, we must remember that our ability to live, engage in activism, and fight for our own future is made possible by those who are resisting russian imperialism through armed struggle today.
For our comrades on the front lines, the lack of electricity, heating, or reliable communications directly affects their safety and their ability to carry out their duties effectively.
In October, our comrade Hayka was killed. The last time we spoke to her was to gather information about her needs for this fundraiser, and she shared how difficult it was to believe that she would have to remain at her station until spring.
It is painful to realise that any day of russian aggression could be the last for one of our friends. We cannot protect them from every danger of war, but we can do everything in our power to support them and provide them with critically needed equipment.
We do not know what this winter will bring, but we know that this fundraiser will help our comrades make it to spring. This campaign brings together Ukrainian and international grassroots anti-authoritarian initiatives. Our goal is to equip anti-authoritarian fighters and their units with the equipment they need to operate in winter conditions.
Our main needs:
- Off-grid power: portable power stations, generators, and power banks.
- Heating: diesel, gas, and electric heaters.
- Winter clothing and gear: thermal underwear, insulated jackets and trousers, sleeping bags, and other essentials.
Our goal is to raise €30 000.
This will cover soldiers' most critical needs and help them prepare for winter conditions.
You can support the campaign not only by donating, but also by organising your own fundraising initiative. Set up donation boxes, organise gigs, benefit events, talks, film screenings and other solidarity events. We are ready to provide customised designs for your sub-fundraising posts for social media.
If you would like to organise an event or get involved in the campaign in any other way, please get in touch with us!
This fundraising campaign is supported by Ukrainian anti-authoritarian groups and initiatives with whom we collaborate:
- Resistance Committees
- Eco-Platform
- Pryama diya (Direct Action)
- Freefilmers
- Street Aid Daily
- Bilkis
- Anarcho-memes

| 3 | Attacks in Hesekê: Attacking the symbols of female martyrs is an attack on every woman who has struggled for freedom and legitimate rights
Analysis on what is happening in Hesekê and statement of Women Defend Rojava-Campaign. In short:
🔴 The attacks in Hesekê clearly have the aim to create a hatred between the peoples, hinder the integration process, and ignite a kurdish-arab war
🔴 They also aim to target the history and achievements of the women’s movement. They reveal the dominant, sexist and misogynistic male mentality of the militias that seeks to suppress the struggle for freedom, social leadership and the will of women, young women.
🔴 The Women's movement, communal representatives and people of Rojava call for the engagement for peaceful coexistence among all the people of the region and all democratic forces to stand up against the attacks.
🔴 Women of Hesekê made clear, that they will not …

| 5 | In light of the recent events in Hasakah Governorate, which have witnessed acts of vandalism and grave assaults perpetrated by individuals operating outside the law, targeting the symbols and images of our fallen female martyrs, we strongly condemn and denounce these reprehensible acts, whether through tearing down their photographs, defacing them, or insulting their memory and sacrifices.
These unethical practices constitute a flagrant assault on our collective memory and conscience, as well as a violation of the humanitarian and national values embodied by our martyrs through their immense sacrifices.
Our female martyrs are symbols of struggle, dignity, and freedom. They gave their lives in defence of the land, justice, and gender equality, and their sacrifices will remain forever enshrined in the memory of our people.
We affirm that any attack on the symbols of our martyrs constitutes an attack on every woman who has struggled for freedom and legitimate rights. Such acts represent a grave moral and national offence that cannot be justified under any pretext. Accordingly, we call upon the Syrian government, represented by the Hasakah Governorate and its Internal Security Forces, to fulfil its responsibilities by holding those responsible for these assaults accountable and taking the necessary measures to prevent their recurrence.
We further emphasise that holding the perpetrators of these assaults accountable will serve as a genuine measure of the seriousness of the integration process, as well as the commitment to safeguarding rights, respecting shared values and principles, and upholding the dignity of women and the sacrifices of our fallen female martyrs.
We reiterate that these reprehensible assaults will not deter us from continuing our struggle to defend women’s rights, dignity, and freedom, or from preserving the legacy and sacrifices of our martyrs.

On 5 October 2014, in the face of ISIS launching an large-scale attack on Kobane, Arîn Mîrkan took a faithful decision and carried out a self-sacrifice action. Until today her bravery and decisiveness is a source of strength, not only for YPJ but for women worldwide.

| 8 | In Germany, the affinities between neo-Nazis and the ‘red-browns’ are pushing the far right towards a test of government
Just as in other European countries, the rise of neo-fascism in Germany cannot be understood without analysing the infiltration of Putin’s regime into both the right and the left

| 9 | On the latest developments regarding the Women's Protection Units YPJ | 943 |
| 10 | On the fifth anniversary of the historic “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising, which erupted following the martyrdom of the Kurdish young woman Jina Amini in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran against the repressive regime, we, the General Command of the Women’s Protection Units, remember all the martyrs of the Freedom Revolution with the utmost respect and appreciation, and bow in reverence to their pure memory. This uprising represented a strategic turning point in the history of women’s struggle and a symbol of social awakening.
The struggle of Kurdish women shattered the walls of fear that had been built over the years. This movement demonstrated that no repressive regime can stand in the way of the legitimate and natural demand for freedom. The philosophy of “Women, Life, Freedom,” inspired by the model of Leader Apo, has become a bridge connecting the peoples of the region. Kurdish, Arab, Persian, Baloch, and other communities united around this line of solidarity, offering a model for building a shared and democratic life.
The slogan “Women, Life, Freedom” is not merely a slogan; it is a declaration that outlines the features of a new world and affirms that without the liberation of women, no society can be free. We, in the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), declare, out of our historic responsibility, that we have expanded the line of resistance that emerged in Rojava to encompass a network of protection for all women in the region. For us, the struggle in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan is not merely an event that we support; it is an inseparable part of our existential cause and our struggle for defence. We will preserve the memory of the martyrs to the very end, strengthen the foundations of this revolution through military and social organisation, and stand as a shield for women’s freedom in the face of all forms of aggression by ruling regimes.
Long live the Women’s Revolution!
Long live the struggle of equal and free peoples!
Martyrs never die!

| 17 | Rojava never aimed to become an independent part of Syria. It aimed to develop the revolutionary practices and blueprints to become a free society. Not just for Syria, not just for Kurdistan, but beyond. After a decade and a half of revolutionary process, with all the victories and the losses, a new balance of power emerged in Syria. The revolutionary movement learned a lot, the Kurdish Liberation Movement is now recognized internationally as a leading force and guidance for revolutionaries all around the world. Now is time to put once again all lessons learned in practice.

| 18 | 💬Evaluation
On Rights on Paper, Reality on the Ground
Al-Sharaa's Presidential Decree 13 recognised Kurdish as a national language and permits Kurdish-language education. On the surface, that's a big deal. In practice, though, the gap between the decree and what's actually happening is where the real tension lives. The August 30 protests at Rojava University and the 4,265 teachers in Afrin and eastern Aleppo facing an uncertain future make it clear that even a year on, Kurdish-language education is quietly being eroded. Crucially, none of these rights are anchored in a constitution, and Kurdish representatives weren't at the table when the constitutional drafting process kicked off in March 2025. That's not a great foundation for reconciliation.
The Kurdish project isn't over, but it's narrowing or shifting from a model of territorial administration toward a much more constrained negotiation over cultural rights, local governance, and administrative competences. If that process keeps stalling without real progress for Kurds, it risks setting a precedent that other minority communities in Syria will end up facing.
On the Economic Squeeze
Integration has also meant a noticeably worse economic situation in the northeast. The region was never rich, but it had a degree of self-reliance — oil revenue, local trade, its own management. Since the handover to Damascus, fuel subsidies have been cut, drinking water is a growing problem in several areas, and prices have been climbing. DAANES kept things as stable as it could with the resources it had; now that the central government is in charge, basic services and access to critical resources have become a much bigger issue than they were before.
On the SDF's Dissolution
Internally and abroad, the SDF's dissolution was framed as a "historic" moment. From the DAANES side, the picture is a lot more complicated. The SDF had been the largest organized military force outside Damascus's control for over a decade, and its dismantling wasn't really a negotiation so much as an imposition. The strong influence of Turkey, not just the government of al-Sharaa but also on the diplomatic US mission in middle east, has been critical. Erdogan attempts to get a green light for a big operation in northern Syria against SDF was not a secret. To avoid that and prevent such a doomsday scenario for the Kurdish population in Syria, SDF sat on the negotiation table to salvage certain degree of autonomy from SDF forces. The final agreement resulted in the integration of SDF in divisions local divisions (3 in hassakah, 1 in Kobane), keeping their command structures and their territorial integrity. Assayish (civil defense forces) got integrated in the ministry of interior in a similar deal, keeping also local autonomy. After months of negotiations about the role of YPJ in the new Syria, it finally got integrated in the ministry of interior, not in the military forces as intended.
The final agreements translate into big concessions with not many gains. Some basic recognition of cultural and political identity of the Kurdish people has been acknowledged by the new Syrian government, with Newroz recognized as a national holiday and Kurdish language as a subject in schools. On the ground, we can see many Kurds discontent with the results, deepening resentment and questioning the legitimacy of the new government. The self-administration and SDF showed their commitment to protect Kurdish lives, accepting to disolve in order to avoid war. Now all the efforts on building autonomy are gonna be put to real test. The grassroots organizing, with hundreds of local communes, academies and cooperatives, were to become the main vehicles of transformation of a democratic society. | 391 |

📌Finalization of SDF integration process
In the end of August Mazlum Ebdi announced the completion of the integration of SDF into the new Syrian army, composed of 3 divisions in Hasakah and 1 in Kobane. The integration of Asayish in the ministry of interior is undergoing some new developments as well, with YPJ integrating in it as well as a new Asayish structure in Afrin.
📌Clashes on the return of Serekaniye
Hundreds of displaced families from Serekaniye returned to their homes at the beginning of August, but they were halted by remanent groups of SNA militias and other pro-turkish groups, who attack the convoy upon its arrival. Men armed with knifes and sticks, some even with firearms, charged against Kurdish civilians screaming anti-kurdish slogans and threatening to kill them. Several people were injured, and the attacks continued over night. In many Kurdish cities demonstrations took place to denounce those attacks.
📌Israel bomb al-Zuhur airbase
On August 19 Israel bombed the al-Zuhur airbase, where the Turkish army was planning to transport military equipment. The attacks took place when the base was empty, and Israel claimed it followed warnings issued to the Turkey to prevent military build up in Syria. The Syrian government denounced the attack, the US also criticized it. It is one more example of the growing tensions between Turkey and Israel in Syria.
📌Normalization of Syria
The US removed Syria from the US State Sponsors of Terrorism list. With this restrictions on banking and finance are also lifted. Global electronic payments, eg with mastercard, can now be done in Syria.
📌Framework law in Turkish parliament
On August 10 the Turkish parliament approved a law to proceed with the peace process and dissolution of PKK. The law provides some legal frame for PKK member to not be prosecuted if they lay down weapons, insisting that it does not apply to those accused of "specific serious crimes" neither high rank PKK members. It does not address any Kurdish demands for political and cultural rights, but is being presented as a first step for the ongoing negotiations on the peace process. | 318 |
