TIPS
If your goal is:
⦁ TOPIK II Level 4-6
⦁ Reading newspapers
⦁ Understanding lectures
⦁ Working in a Korean corporate environment
Then Hanja roots are a shortcut.
Belajar Hanja bisa ningkatin:
⦁ Pattern recognition
⦁ Speed reading
⦁ Nebak arti kata kompleks
⦁ Naik level dari conversational ke academic Korean
Di TOPIK II (level 4-6), questions 41-83, teksnya jarang conversational. Biasanya akademik:
⦁ artikel berita
⦁ analisis sosial
⦁ isu ekonomi
⦁ kebijakan publik
⦁ perubahan demografi
⦁ pendidikan & globalisasi
These are heavily Hanja-based.
Misal, kamu tau 1 roots aja, contoh 비 (費) = biaya.
Ini bukan tentang hafal 10 kata.
It's about ngerti 1 root, bisa buka 10+ kata sekaligus.
Karena teks akademik bacaannya panjang, waktunya dikit.
Kalau kamu tahu sistemnya, semua ga akan keliatan random dan intimidating.

[HANJA] 50 Sino-2000 Korean Vocabulary Builder
Publisher: Sotong - 2021
This is actually one of my favorite books. Detail tapi to the point.
Benefits:
- Recognize word patterns
- Guess meanings efficiently through word roots
- Improve TOPIK academic reading
TRIVIA:
60–70% kosakata Korea asalnya dari Hanja terutama di:
⦁ teks akademik
⦁ artikel berita
⦁ dokumen pemerintahan
⦁ istilah hukum & legal
⦁ istilah politik dan ekonomi
Makanya mahasiswa fakultas hukum atau calon lawyer di Korea tetep belajar dan hafal Hanja.
Karena banyak istilah hukum ditulis pake Hanja.
Just like lawyer di Indonesia belajar bahasa Belanda.
TIPS:
Kalo ada 2 kata yang artinya sama, kamu tinggal cari mana kata yang ada Hanja nya, because most likely, yang derived from Hanja itu kata FORMAL.
Sisanya uda pasti INFORMAL. Contoh:
돈 = uang → bahasa sehari-hari
자금 (資金) = dana → konteks bisnis-politik
Native Korean word = casual / spoken
Hanja-based word = formal / written

[CULTURE]
The Oxford Handbook of Confucianism
Publisher: Oxford University Press - 2023
A comprehensive academic essays compilation of Confucianism: its origins, core texts, evolution across China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and how Confucian thought still shapes modern society, politics, ethics, education, and family structure.
Who it’s for:
Researchers, international relations students, educators, and serious readers who want a deep understanding of Confucianism.
Purpose:
To show Confucianism not as “ancient philosophy,” but as a living intellectual and social framework across East Asia dan Southeast Asia.
Benefit:
You stop seeing Confucianism merely as religion and start seeing it as the cultural logic behind hierarchy, education obsession, discipline, and social ethics today.
Cocok buat yang pengen tahu standard negara ‘Beradab’ (civilized nation) menurut negara yang termasuk dlm Confucian Asia Cluster (China - Hong Kong as well, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore) kayak gimana.

Banyak orang ngira:
“Konfusianisme itu cuma sejarah, cuma filsafat.”
“Korea kan mayoritas atheis, buddhist, protestan, bukan konghucu”
- longgar aturan, ga tertib, ga disiplin
- ga respect hierarki
- ga “exam/merit driven” (meritocracy lemah)
Bagi penganut Konfusian, itu dianggep kurang teratur - kurang terdidik - kurang beradab. So, racism (selective bias) muncul bukan cuma karena perbedaan fisik atau ekonomi. Tapi juga karena perbedaan pandangan ideology.
