Mycobacterium bovis known as bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) uses shared antigens to stimulate the development of cross-immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
It is 70-80% effective against the most severe forms of TB, such as TB meningitis.
BCG is effective at reducing morbidity and mortality in children but is less useful in the prevention of adult respiratory disease
