▶️ Please Act Now: Crucial Vote on Assisted Suicide Bill in 10 Days A crucial MP vote on the Assisted Suicide Bill (formally the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill 2024–25) is expected on 16 May - and likely to be very close. This is a sensitive issue with good intentions on both sides, but serious concerns are growing - including among MPs and the public, many of whom initially supported the idea in principle. Key concerns include: 1 - Weakened Safeguards: Protections for vulnerable people have been removed or weakened, increasing their risk of coercion 2 - Lack of Oversight: A vague panel replaces judges, raising concerns about spotting coercion or assessing mental capacity 3 - Hospice Impact: Hospices may be forced to allow assisted suicide or lose funding, threatening care for the dying 4 - Profit Risks: The Bill allows for-profit companies to offer assisted suicide, risking exploitation 5 - Impact on NHS: Making assisted suicide an NHS service undermines its duty to preserve life and weakens patient trust 6 - Harmful Message: Combined with care cuts, the Bill sends a message that vulnerable people are a burden 7 - System Pressure: NHS shortages may lead to patients being pushed toward assisted death 8 - Unclear Legislation: The Bill has changed significantly since the last MP vote, removing safeguards and leaving key details uncertain If you share any of these concerns, please use our tool to contact your MP - it takes seconds: https://together.eaction.org.uk/asbill
