Story: A Father’s Choice The Pastor of a church told the congregation that he had invited his friend to preach the sermon. At that time, an old man came to the pulpit. The old man said that many years ago, he had taken his son and his son’s friend on his boat for a fun ride on the ocean. It was a cool night and they enjoyed the breeze. Suddenly, the waves were getting higher and higher and they couldn’t return to the shore. The boat was swept into the ocean. The boat capsized. They were thrown into the water. The old man grabbed a rope. He had only one second to decide whom to save. Should he save his son or should he save his son’s friend? The old man knew that his son had given his heart to Jesus and that if he died, he had the hope of eternal life. When Jesus comes again, he knew that his son would be taken to heaven to live with Jesus. The old man also knew that his son’s friend had not given his heart to Jesus, so, if he died, he would lose eternal life. The old man threw the rope to his son’s friend and saved his life. However, his own son drowned in the storm that night. His body was never recovered. The whole congregation was very touched by this story. After the service, two teenagers came and told the old man that no father would give up his only son’s life in hopes that the other boy would become a Christian. The old man said that the story was true. The old man said that after this experience, his son’s friend gave his heart to Jesus…. and his son’s friend was serving Jesus now. The old man said, “Your Pastor is my son’s friend. Your Pastor is the boy that I saved that night.” Notes: This story gives us a glimpse of what it must have been for God to give up His Son to die on the cross for you and me. When we sin, we are supposed to die eternally but because Jesus died in our place, we are not dead yet and we have the hope of eternal life. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23. When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we can have eternal life. Notes 2: According to the 4th Commandment, the 7th day… Saturday… is the correct Sabbath. We need to obey all the Ten Commandments to get eternal life. People who obeyed the Ten Commandments and reflected the love of Jesus will be taken to heaven when Jesus comes. The people who did not obey the Ten Commandments will lose eternal life. God will judge people according to the truth that they knew about the Ten Commandment Law. Multitudes of people are returning to God’s seventh-day Sabbath as they learn this truth. Let’s pray, Dear Jesus, Thank you for dying on the cross on my behalf. I love you. I want to give my life to you. I accept you as my personal Savior. Give me grace and power to obey all the Ten Commandments so that I will be ready to meet you when you come again. Please forgive all my sins and restore and transform me so that I can be more like you. I want to live with you forever. Thank you Jesus. Amen.
