Eskom customers will face an eye-watering annual price increase of 18.6% beginning on April 1. This announcement has incited anger across the country, with many experts emphasizing the devastating impact it will have on poorer communities. Organizational bodies all over South Africa fiercely reacted when the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) approved an 18.65% tariff increase for Eskom. The tariff hike will enter into force in the financial year 2023–2024. It is higher than the 7.4% current inflation rate. Public outrage has increased as a result of the announcement and Stage 6 blackouts. New blue trains stand idle as Prasa fails to make critical upgrades to depots The Gibela factory in Dunnottar continues to produce new blue trains, promising the country a revitalization of commuter rail, but the depots of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) are not prepared to receive them. The upgrades to engineering services have encountered difficulties, and any settlement agreements that result may be illegal. Acting Judge Stuart Wilson of the Johannesburg High Court imposed an interim interdict against Prasa on August 26, 2021, preventing it from going forward with an overpriced engineering consulting tender for improvements to the Salt River and Springfield facilities. The GladAfrica Group, which also conducts business as GladAfrica Consulting Engineering, won the tenders for these depots. According to the tax firm, the tax authorities would strengthen its attention on revenue collection and compliance throughout the course of 2022, particularly with regard to HNWIs. According to Tax Consulting SA, the middle to HNWI classes in South Africa are bearing the brunt of the country's declining tax base. The creation of a separate HNWI Unit at SARS is proof that the revenue body does not currently investigate wealthy people but rather plans to do so in the years to come, it claimed.
