Both the retail petrol and wholesale diesel prices reached record highs during the year, following on from a 2021 that had already seen substantial hikes. Load-shedding blamed for sewage spills on two Cape Town beaches Load-shedding is to blame for two sewage spills which led to Muizenberg and Fish Hoek beaches being temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. Acting Cape Town mayor Eddie Andrews said on Wednesday prolonged outages under higher stages of power cuts were taking a toll on sewage infrastructure. “The recent temporary closure of Muizenberg and Fish Hoek beaches highlight the challenges brought about by continued high stages of load-shedding on the city’s water and sanitation infrastructure. “However, every effort is being made to address spills as speedily as possible. Replacing coal plants in South Africa with renewables is ‘senseless destruction’ Centre for Industrial Process President Alex Epstein says there is no way to lower emissions humanely apart from discovering cost-competitive alternatives like nuclear energy. In an official statement, dated 14 December 2022, entitled ‘De Ruyter’s resignation long overdue’, the EFF declared that the ‘Eskom CEO is incompetent, arrogant and useless and he was never qualified to be appointed to position.’ The EFF then told us how to solve South Africa’s electricity disaster. ‘The EFF further calls for the suspension of all load-shedding with immediate effect and the restoration of electricity to all households and business premises.’ There you are!
