OPINION PIECE: Just supposing if an Irish political party with a real chance of forming a government declared a culture war on radicalised Islam. Just supposing if the political manifesto included the closing of militant mosques and the deporting of radicalised Muslim clerics. Just supposing if it deprived people born in Ireland to parents born outside of Ireland to automatic citizenship. Supposing if the political manifesto included giving a ‘national preference’ to citizens over foreigners in a range of matters including housing. Such a party would be dismissed as ‘far right’. It would be investigated for hate, the official media omertà would apply of not mentioning the party so that it can not get traction. Every effort would be made to denigrate and disparage such a political movement and government with the help of the fake opposition and purchased media would go into overdrive to smother out the party before it could even breath. Yet a ninety minute plane trip away from us there is a political party that may well take over the reins of power in early July in Europes second biggest economy. Welcome to France and welcome to Rassemblement.
There is a conversation happening in France that is transparent and mainstream, a conversation encouraged by the media and interest groups across the political spectrum. There is also a similar conversation happening in Ireland but that conversation appears to be clandestine and secretive, a conversation of the people by the people but frantically suppressed by government, NGO migrant advocacy groups and of course by the official media. The censorship is applied by a combination of ignoring and shaming. However concerns over mass inward migration are increasingly highlighted in opinion polls and of course that is more difficult to control and suppress. If you speak up on the many issues freely spoken about in France and if you can not be ignored or easily dismissed you will be attacked or cancelled or both. The plan will be to shame and embarrass you, to discourage you continuing and to cause you loss.
Our national conversation began before the last EU and local election. It started slowly, every effort was made to make a peoples national consensus on migration into a series of disconnected spats between ‘far right’ agitators and reasonable welcoming people. Handpicked welcoming committees totally unrepresentative of public opinion popped up all over the place. These committees presumed to speak on everybody’s behalf despite their lack of popular support. But it was about undermining protest, creating a false opinion as to the public sentiment. But you can not stop a national movement and the recent referenda results plus the local and European election results now clearly show that our conversation has begun. It is about time. A healthy democracy revolves around healthy debate. But a combination of toxic ideology, more toxic self interest and a straightforward lack of patriotism leads to suppressed debate and a fake democracy. Until recently the unholy alliance of government, fake opposition, tax funded NGO’s and compliant media have managed to keep the lid on healthy debate and suppress anything that might challenge or undermine mountains of self interest.
In France, Jordan Bardella, the president of Rassemblement has been very clear as to what would happen if they succeed in achieving an overall majority. France would renegotiate a series of EU treaties involving immigration, taxation and giving preference to French people. Mr Bardella has stated ‘that our arrival in office will mark Frances return to the European stage, to defend its interests’. When did we ever here of an Irish politician speaking about defending Irelands interests. Do we remember Micheál Martins cringeworthy comments on sovereignty. Let’s stand up to unelected NGO’s and detached self serving government, let’s embrace true democracy based on debate, transparency and honesty. Let’s reclaim our nation.
