TIIU RANDVIIR (born in 1938) was the prima ballerina of the Estonian National Opera from 1956 to 1979. In addition to classical roles (Odette-Ottilie in "Swan Lake" and others) she was much appreciated for performing dramatic heroines such as Carmen, Cleopatra and Medea. She is the only Estonian dancer that received the highest award available during the era of Soviet occupation, the title of the People's Artist of the USSR. After finishing her dancing career, Ms Randviir worked as a ballet pedagogue at Wiener Staatsoper, in Stuttgart and her native Estonia - until her 80th birthday in 2018. The ballet "Medea" was created by the renowned Estonian choreographer MAI MURDMAA in 1966 to the music of Samuel Barber. This film is recorded in the late 1970's.
