At the Institute of Biological Information Processing (IBI-3) of the Forschungszentrum Jülich, physicists, chemists, biologists, and engineers perform joint research on multidisciplinary projects from electronic devices to biological applications. This collaboration has led to great development of electronic devices in microfluidics, micro-/nano-patterning, biosensors, neural implants and neural interface. This project will focus on creating active stimulating-sensing devices to understand and record neuron behavior by integrating light-driven materials with mutielectrodes arrays (MEA). Dynamic devices will be fabricated by photo/E-Beam lithography, their dynamic response in morphology and mechanical properties will be evaluated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Immunostaining in related proteins expression will be applied to understand neuron adhesion, mobility and mechanical sensitivity dynamically.
