Last week, I had a meeting with someone I paid ~$50,000 to be coached and mentored by. While he has generated >8 figures and to be completely open, I did not like some of the things he said (I share more about it below). Still, I want to share with you some of the biggest lessons I took away during my meeting with Melvin Soh so you can benefit and learn too. The first lesson was a very simple one - your environment dictates how you think, operate, and behave. If you are always staying in one area, you tend to box yourself based on what the people or energy around you are like. One of my mentees who charges USD30,000 per client for personal transformation has also shared how energy, frequency and vibration in the space around you can affect you unconsciously - which is why her company is extremely particular about your physical surroundings and the people you hang out with. And so, something I am committed to doing is to get out of my “cave” way more often, to hang out at places that inspire and energise me, and to meet people with whom we can support one another to grow too. To achieve what you want, no matter what people tell you, You do have to make sacrifices in life. And instead of whining or feeling bad about it, It's all just about deciding what is truly important to you. At the end of the day remember that it's YOUR choice and no one is forcing you. You got this.

If you set such a high bar - it's easy to feel empty and incomplete - which also makes it harder to achieve your goals and dreams too.

A Lesson from Crappy Parallel Parking I am sure most of you can relate to this at one point in your life. You are searching for a parking spot to park your car, and you found one! But there is a problem… It’s a parallel parking lot… I get it, parallel parking is hard. New drivers are usually afraid of parallel parking. Even experienced drivers may be bad at it. But MANY drivers out there choose to avoid parking in that lot and simply accept the fact that they can’t do it. What am I trying to say here? Many people face this same mentality in many areas of their life. They would accept that they suck in something and don’t do anything about it. What they fail to see is that EVERYONE sucks at most things. (At least, in the beginning.) But the key to mastery is through practice and repetition. I am actually not a Fan of Taylor Swift. And before the Swifties start to judge & criticise me - hear me out please HAHA Because while I don’t really enjoy her songs, I respect that she is an AMAZING entrepreneur and role model. Not only because she's currently worth $740M and has the potential to be a billionaire by 2024, She also works harder than anyone else. By the time she comes to Singapore on the Eras tour, she’d have already performed the same thing for ~2 years, which is likely to be the highest-grossing tour in history. Also, she works smarter and innovates on such a high level too. From making the crazy decision to challenge Spotify for artists’ compensation, she’s a brilliant songwriter, constantly directly interacting with the fans and way more, She is going to be one of the most iconic artists of all time (if not already). So yes, while I don’t really enjoy her songs, she’s someone I definitely look up to. Making money is not just about learning sales and marketing. At the end of the day it’s about how much value you can bring for someone. It puzzles me how many people think the way to make money is simply to sell and market instead of focusing how they can improve their craft. Remember to upgrade yourself too :)

BREAK A BAD HABIT IN JUST 20 SECONDS Earlier, I talked about INCREASING the ACTIVATION ENERGY to habits you want to get rid of. Another example would be an entrepreneur with a tendency to constantly check  notifications, when it's supposed to be time for deep work. So here's a simple yet effective solution: rearrange the app icons on one's phone's home screen. Move your email and messaging apps to a separate screen, making them less accessible and visually prominent. These small changes I've also applied at work really helped me regain valuable time and mental clarity.
