Magic Eden used Payment Processor, a trading system built by an NFT company called Limit Break, for trades in 2024. They stopped using it in Oct 2024, but the approvals you gave it never went away.

| 9 |  Bitget hack: what we actually know 16 hours in
Here's TL;DR ↓
– ≈$351.6M left Bitget's hot wallets after its security system flagged the first unauthorized transfer at 18:31 UTC on Sept 24. Cold wallets were not affected.
– The method surzprized me the most. No private keys were stolen. Per CEO Gracy Chen, the attacker got into a backend system and spoofed transaction data, so Bitget's own infrastructure approved the withdrawals.
– XRP was the largest single loss: 102.9M XRP (≈$157.5M), then 31,890 ETH (≈$85.8M) and ≈$75.5M in stablecoins. Most of the EVM funds were already swapped into 67,982 ETH (≈$183M).
– Chen points to IP addresses tied to VPNs used by a DPRK group, and on-chain investigators link the XRP route to July's AFX hack, attributed to Lazarus-linked TraderTraitor. No technical evidence has been published yet.
– Coverage: the 5,500 BTC (≈$464M) User Protection Fund absorbs the loss and should be refilled later. Deposits and trading stay open, balances are intact, and Mandiant and SlowMist are investigating.
– Withdrawals are frozen with no reopen date. When Bybit lost $1.5B in Feb 2025, it never paused withdrawals, partly because Bitget lent it 40,000 ETH. This time the roles flipped.
– Context: September is already 2026's worst month for hacks, with $700M+ lost, including Liquid's $320M on Sept 7.
That does not mean cold storage failed. It means the weak point moved to the centralized system that decides what a hot wallet is allowed to send.
Now, to assess how big an impact this hack had, let's watch how fast withdrawals reopen and whether the incident report actually explains the backend breach. | 132 |
