Urban challenge Fund 1. Union Cabinet approved the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) with ₹1 lakh crore Central assistance under MHUA. 2. Central aid will cover up to 25% of project cost. 3. States/ULBs must raise the remaining minimum 50% from market sources. 4. Aim: To catalyse ₹4 lakh crore investment in urban infrastructure over 5-years. 5. Operational: from 2025–26 to 2030–31, extendable up to 2033–34. 6. It targets resilient, inclusive, productive and climate-responsive cities. Focus on Local Bodies: 1. Cities (≥10 lakh), all State/UT capitals, and major industrial cities with population >1 lakhare eligible. 2. Smaller cities (< 1 lakh), hilly & NE-States can access support through a Credit Repayment Guarantee Scheme. 3. A ₹5,000 crore corpus will enhance the creditworthiness of 4,223 (Tier-2 & Tier-3) cities.
