Hans Hirning was born on 14 November 1922 in Ulm. He volunteered to join the SS and was posted to the 3.SS-Division "Totenkopf'". He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class in October of 1941, for actions at Lushno, and the 1st Class award in July, 1942 in Demjansk. He was a Rottenführer in the Mortar section of the 6. Kompanie, SS-Totenkopf-Infantry-Regiment 1., SS-Division "Totenkopf", when he was awarded the Knight's Cross in October 1942, for actions in Demjansk Hans Hirning was killed in action at Dürnholz in Czechoslovakia on the April 30th, 1945.
