Zamindari System during British India Tax from the land was a main source of revenue for the kings and emperors from ancient times. But the ownership pattern of land had witnessed changes over centuries. During Kingship, land was divided into Jagirs, Jagirs were alloted to Jagirdars, these Jagirdars split the land they got and allocated to sub-ordinate Zamindars. Zamindars made peasants cultivate the land, in-return collected part of their revenue as tax. The main features of the Permanent Settlement were as follows: Zamindari System was introduced by Cornwallis in 1793 through Permanent Settlement Act. It was introduced in provinces of Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Varanasi. Also known as Permanent Settlement System. The zamindar was recognized as the owners of land as long as they paid the revenue to the East India Company frequently. The amount of revenue that the zamindar had to pay to the Company was firmly fixed and would not be raised under any circumstances. In other words the Government of the East India Company got 89% leaving the rest to the zamindars. The realized amount would be divided into 11 parts. 1/11 of the share belongs to Zamindars and 10/11 of the share belongs to East India Company. The ryots became tenants since they were considered the tillers of the soil. This settlement took away the administrative and judicial functions of the zamindars. The Permanent Settlement of Cornwallis was bitterly criticised on the point that it was adopted with ‘undue haste’. The flagrant defect of this arrangement was that no attempt was made ever either to survey the lands or to assess their value. The assessment was made roughly on the basis of accounts of previous collections and it was done in an irregular manner. अपनी उपयोगिता के आधार पर हमारा ग्रुप जॉइन करें JOIN NOW 👇👇 @MP_PSC_NOTES @MP_PSC_QUIZ @MPPSCTESTSERIES0 @MPPSCANSWERWRITING0 For All MP govt EXAM PREPRATION @MPEXAMGURUJI 🎯🎯🎯👆👆🎯🎯

British Rule in Madhya Pradesh #MPGK_english The British expanded their dominion from their strongholds in Bengal, Bombay and Madras, they defeated the Marathas between 1775 and 1818 and entered into treaty relationships with their states and established paramountcy over them. Most of Madhya Pradesh, including the large states of Indore, Bhopal, Nagpur, Rewa and a number of small states came under British Empire. During 1853, the British annexed the state of Nagpur which included south- eastern Madhya Pradesh, eastern Maharashtra and most of Chhattisgarh which were combined with Saugor and Nerbudda Territories to form Central Province in 1861. The princely states of northern Madhya Pradesh were governed by the Central India Agency. In the early 19th century the area became increasingly agitated as Pindarirobber bands, composed of horsemen formerly attached to armies of Maratha chiefs, began to raid towns and villages from their hideouts in central India. The Pindaris, who received the tacit protection of the Sindhia and Holkar dynasties, had formed these autonomous bands beginning in the late 18th century, when the Maratha confederacy was weakening from internal dissension and from the growing military presence of the British. By 1818 British armies were able to suppress not only the Pindaris but also the various Maratha dynasties. In 1818 year the Nerbudda (now Narmada) Riverand Saugor (now Sagar) territories, containing much of northern Madhya Pradesh (including Gwalior and Indore of the Sindhia and Holkar dynasties), were ceded to the emerging British Empire. During the next 40 years the British consolidated their control over the area. In the early 1830s British armies were required to suppress the thugs, a fraternity of assassins and plunderers (dating from at least the 14th century) who were roaming across central India. By 1854 all of Madhya Pradesh had fallen under British control. The present borders began to take shape in 1861, when the Sagar and Narmada territories and the Nagpurplain to the south were merged to create the Central Provinces. In 1903, with the addition of the Muslim territory of Berar, the area was renamed the Central Provinces and Berar. This administrative unit, however, did not include those parts of the north and west of the present state (Malwa, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand) that from 1854 formed sections of the Central India Agency. The Muslim state of Bhopal, situated between the Central India Agency and the Central Provinces and Berar, remained a protectorate of the British अपनी उपयोगिता के आधार पर हमारा ग्रुप जॉइन करें JOIN NOW 👇👇 @MP_PSC_NOTES @MP_PSC_QUIZ @MPPSCTESTSERIES0 @MPPSCANSWERWRITING0 For All MP govt EXAM PREPRATION @MPEXAMGURUJI 🎯🎯🎯👆👆🎯🎯

Major dynasties of Madhya Pradesh #MPGK_ENGLISH Gupta Dynasty In the 4th century A.D a new power, the Gupta dynasty, arose in northern India. Chandragupta-I was the first monarch who extended his Kingdom in the Gangetic Valley. His son, Samudragupta, made a countrywide conquest. Soon after the death of Samudragupta, the Sakas, taking advantage of weakness of Ramaguta, over powered the latter. The problem of Ramuguta of the Gupta dynasty has been a controversial one. Various views have been expressed by scholars about this so called “Mysterious” ruler. The region of Madhya Pradesh, particularly the area of Malwa received special attention during the reign of Chandragupta-II. His inscriptions found at Vaigiri and Sanchi bear a testimony to this. After the death of Chandragupta-II, the Gupta supremacy over the Varmanas of Dasapura (Mandsaur) seems to have been eclipsed for sometime during the early reign of his son Kumargupta-I. A stone pillar inscription of this ruler dated Gupta era 141 (460 A.D.) has been discovered at Supia (Distt. Rewa in M.P.). It records the setting up of Gotra Sailka (family memorial stone). During Harsavardhana Time After the fall of the Gupta empire, parts of northern Madhya Pradesh went under the suzerainty of Harsavardhana of Kanauj. He once visited the thick Vindhya forests while making a search for his sister Rajyasri. Banabhatta, the celebrated court-poet of Harsa, has left a vivid description of the Vindhya forest. It seems plausible that Bana was bom and brought up near Chandreh in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. अपनी उपयोगिता के आधार पर हमारा ग्रुप जॉइन करें JOIN NOW 👇👇 @MP_PSC_NOTES @MP_PSC_QUIZ @MPPSCTESTSERIES0 @MPPSCANSWERWRITING0 For All MP govt EXAM PREPRATION @MPEXAMGURUJI 🎯🎯🎯👆👆🎯🎯

Saila dance Young boys of the plains of Chhattisgarh bring life to the post-harvest time by the Saila dance. Saila is a stick-dance and is popular among the people of Sarguja, Chhindwara and Baitui districts. But in these places, Saila is known by DandaNach or Dandar Pate. The Saila often comes out with many variations and much buffoonery. Sometimes the dancers form a circle, each standing on one leg and supporting himself by holding on to the man in front. Then they all hop together round and round Sometimes they fa pair off, or go round in a single or double line, occasionally, climbing on each other’s back. The climax of a day’s Saila, is the great Snake Dance. The Saila songs, of which the refrain is the monotonous Nanarenana are usually of a progressive character leading to a highly vulgar conclusion. Saila comprises over half a dozen varieties. Some of them are named as the BaithikiSaila, the ArtariSaila, the ThadiSaila, the ChamkaKundaSaila, the ChakramarSaila (lizard’s dance) and the ShikariSaila. Each variation has a certain theme and distinctive feature of its own. Saila’s simple form is the Dasera dance which is always performed by the Baigas before Diwali. Some of the post-harvest dances reach the climax towards the festivities of Diwali. The Diwali dances of the Ahirs and Rawats of Bilaspur and Ralpur districts of the state have enough of vital appeal. Muria Dances The Murias are trained in the Ghotui for all types of their community dances. Before any dance is commenced at a wedding or a festive occasion, the Murias first worship their drums. Very often they begin with an invocation to ‘Lingo Pen’, the phallic deity of the tribe and the founder of the GhotuI institution. To a Muria, Lingo Pen was the first musician who taught the art of drumming to the tribal boys. The dancing site is chosen near the GhotuI compound. On marriage celebrations, the Muria boys and girls perform a dance called HarEndanna. The dance commences with a group of boys carrying ritualistic offerings and gifts and conducting the bridegroom to the ceremonial place. In this light and happy dance, there are a variety of movements with the boy and the girl dancers and drummers participating to move in patterns with running steps and circles then changing directions, kneeling, bending and jumping. The movements of the drummers as they dance and manipulate their drums is fascinating. Their Hulki is the loveliest of all the dances. The Karsana is performed for sheer fun and enjoyment. Both the dance-forms are quick and rich with many rhythmic nuances. In the Hulki, boys move in a ring while the girls tread way through them. These forms are more favourite with the performing groups when they go to another village to attend wedding celebrations or else visit some fair. Their Pus Kolang expedition occurs in the month of February. During hot weather the boys and the girls meet in Chhat’Dadar expedition. Many of the dances associated to these visits are stick-dances. अपनी उपयोगिता के आधार पर हमारा ग्रुप जॉइन करें JOIN NOW 👇👇 @MP_PSC_NOTES @MP_PSC_QUIZ @MPPSCTESTSERIES0 @MPPSCANSWERWRITING0 For All MP govt EXAM PREPRATION @MPEXAMGURUJI 🎯🎯🎯👆👆🎯🎯

Women adorned with brass fillets and bead necklaces over their tattooed bodies soon join the assemblage. They carry dancing sticks called Tirududi in their right hands and tap them to conform with the drum-beats. They dance in their own groups by the side of the male members. But they also take the liberty to cross and re-cross in between the groups of male dancers and drummers. Their jingling anklets correspond to the songs of their lips as they move. The men beat the drums, tossing the horns and feathers of their headgears to the rising tempo that gives the dance a wilder touch. The men with drums usually move in a circle and create a variety of dancing patterns when they are spirited. In the bison dance (Gaur) they attack one another and chase the female dancers. The Marias imitate a number of bison movements. Most of them perform like frisky bulls, hurling wisps of grass into air, charging and tossing horns. अपनी उपयोगिता के आधार पर हमारा ग्रुप जॉइन करें JOIN NOW 👇👇 @MP_PSC_NOTES @MP_PSC_QUIZ @MPPSCTESTSERIES0 @MPPSCANSWERWRITING0 For All MP govt EXAM PREPRATION @MPEXAMGURUJI 🎯🎯🎯👆👆🎯🎯
