Gram Wallet Becomes Available on Telegram Telegram has begun rolling out its new non-custodial wallet, Gram Wallet. For now, it is available to a limited number of users. To make the wallet appear for other users, they must receive a transfer of at least 0.1 Gram from another user. Gram Wallet uses a separate smart contract called WalletTg, which differs from the wallet contracts used by other non-custodial apps, including My Wallet and Keeper. The channel previously covered the features of the new smart contract: t.me/infotonen/331. One of the wallet’s features is the ability to send Gram up to five times per day without blockchain fees, either to other Telegram users or to a wallet address. However, the first transaction incurs a fee to initialize the smart contract. Currently, Gram Wallet supports Gram and Telegram-related NFTs, including gifts, collectible usernames, and anonymous numbers. If other tokens or NFTs are sent to a Gram Wallet address, they will not appear in the wallet interface. However, they can be recovered using another non-custodial wallet that supports the WalletTg smart contract. Gram Wallet should not be confused with the Gram balance in Telegram, which was recently renamed Gram Earnings. These are two different features: the Gram balance can be used to purchase gifts on Telegram Resell and submit offers to channels to publish posts, while transferring funds directly from this balance to the new Gram Wallet is currently not possible.

Everscale Community Takes Over Network After Broxus Exit The Broxus team announced that it would end its support for Everscale infrastructure after more than two years of operating without commercial returns. The remaining services were initially scheduled to be shut down on September 29, 2026, but the community managed to take control of the infrastructure before support was fully discontinued. As part of the transition, Broxus provided the community with access to the necessary infrastructure and source code. Everscale developers and validators independently restored the operation of key network components. As a result, the main infrastructure components remained operational, and the network did not go offline. The StEver pool was smoothly removed from validation, after which control of the validators was transferred to several independent community teams. At the same time, Broxus had initially warned users to withdraw their assets from the company’s services before September 29, 2026. The shutdown affected Broxus validators, FlatQube, Octus Bridge infrastructure, EVER Wallet, EVER Scan, RPC endpoints, and other services. After ending its operations, Broxus also did not plan to be responsible for recovering users’ assets. For users holding USDT on the Everscale network, they were specifically advised to use Octus Bridge to transfer their tokens to the Avalanche network — at the time of the announcement, this was the only supported route. Everscale is now effectively transitioning to a community-driven governance model. Project developers refer to the event as a Community Takeover and say they plan to return to further ecosystem development after the transition period is completed. Everscale itself emerged in November 2021 following the rebranding of Free TON. At the time, the native TON Crystal token was renamed EVER, while the rebranding was accompanied by major changes to the network’s architecture and governance.

Wallet bot renamed as Walt — and disappears from the app menu as Telegram prepares its own replacement On September 28, 2026, users noticed that Telegram had stopped promoting Wallet. The bot itself had been renamed Walt and given a new logo that no longer made it look like an official Telegram service. In 2023, Telegram and the TON Foundation publicly announced a partnership, and the Wallet bot was closely integrated into the messaging app. In particular, Telegram began displaying the wallet in the app’s menu, promoting it to all its users. The Wallet bot was launched in 2022 by a company associated with the TON Foundation. At the time, the @tginfo editors expressed the view that Wallet was being developed in close cooperation with Telegram. Today, the company that owns the Wallet bot is known as TOP (The Open Platform). The @tginfo editors link these changes to the Telegram team’s preparations to launch its own Gram Wallet, which will become the primary wallet for Telegram users. The history of Telegram Open Network (TON) and Gram In the view of the @tginfo editors, the TON Foundation and the Wallet bot, now known as Walt, are the result of a hybrid strategy Telegram pursued because of the SEC’s 2020 ban on developing TON. Telegram is now replacing the bot with the fully integrated Gram wallet, in line with the original 2019 vision. Telegram may have decided to take back direct control of the blockchain thanks to the significant deregulation of cryptocurrencies in the US in recent years.

Preparations for launch and investment The first rumors about the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain and its cryptocurrency, Gram, both developed by the Telegram team, surfaced in 2017. In 2018, Telegram held a private ICO and raised about $2 billion. At the time, some believed that Telegram was developing TON in part to hold an ICO and raise funds to keep the company going, while avoiding the obligations associated with issuing securities and the need to introduce advertising and paid subscriptions in the app. By early 2019, it had become clear that the cryptocurrency was being prepared for launch and integration with Telegram in the coming months, in line with previously leaked plans. That same year, an experimental built-in Gram wallet appeared in the app. The SEC lawsuit and the freeze In October 2019, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Telegram, alleging that Telegram was selling securities, not virtual currency, through its ICO. In 2020, Telegram signed a settlement that forced it to refund investors and officially discontinue work on TON. Telegram froze development and removed most mentions of TON and Gram from the app. After losing the investments raised through the ICO, Telegram began financing itself through Eurobonds and other types of bonds. Telegram did not repay its first debt tranche, issued in 2021, until 2026. After Durov’s team left, the developer community split into two parallel branches: • Free TON: An independent group led by TON Labs, a validator, launched a separate network with the TON Crystal token. • NewTON (TON Community): Another group of independent developers continued supporting the original testnet2 network created by Durov’s team and focused on preserving TON’s original architecture and concept. The birth of the TON Foundation and the hybrid era In August 2021, Telegram officially chose the NewTON team, handing over the official ton.org domain and the project’s GitHub repository to it. The NewTON team then renamed itself The Open Network (TON Foundation), and the native token was named Toncoin. Although Telegram and the TON Foundation were independent, the @tginfo team believes there was an informal connection between them that allowed Telegram to continue working on TON. By maintaining formal independence, Telegram may have been trying to avoid scrutiny from the SEC and other regulators. In 2022, former VKontakte executive Andrey Rogozov, who had worked with Durov for a long time, and other developers joined the TON Foundation. In 2023, Rogozov also became head of The Open Platform (TOP). A press release states that TOP was formed by merging First Stage Labs with the Wallet team inside Telegram. Before 2024, the makeup of the TON Foundation team changed quietly, and it appears that at some point Rogozov stopped actively participating in the foundation and focused on The Open Platform. Meanwhile, Telegram maintained closer ties with TOP than with the TON Foundation. Telegram began a cautious integration: it launched TON-based auctions on the Fragment platform, introduced payouts in TON, enabled gifts to be registered as NFTs, added support for TON Sites to the app, and required Mini Apps to use TON. It was in this context that Wallet appeared. In the view of the @tginfo editors, it may have been one of the main drivers behind the emergence of the Web Bots / Mini Apps platform in 2022. In 2023, it began appearing for all Telegram users as the default wallet app. Legally, however, it was operated not by Telegram but by the TON Foundation and, later, Rogozov’s TOP. MTONGA In spring 2026, Pavel Durov announced the launch of the Make TON Great Again (MTONGA) initiative — a sweeping seven-step program intended to bring TON back to Telegram, transforming it once again from a standalone cryptocurrency project into Telegram’s native blockchain. Telegram regained control of the blockchain and its status as lead validator, upgraded the blockchain, restored the cryptocurrency’s original name, Gram, and announced plans to integrate a native wallet into Telegram apps. However, it appears that Rogozov’s team’s Walt wallet is not part of the MTONGA plans. TOP and its Walt wallet will continue to operate independently. In early 2026, TOP planned to buy the popular non-custodial wallet Tonkeeper from its founders. The full acquisition of its shares did not go through, but in August 2026 TOP took over Tonkeeper’s operations. Tonkeeper also owns the Tonviewer blockchain explorer, which was used in official Telegram apps to inspect blockchain transactions. In 2026, this blockchain explorer, which was under the control of Rogozov’s company, began displaying casino ads, so Telegram replaced it with Tonscan. Telegram chose not to return to Tonviewer even after it removed the ads. It’s worth noting that Telegram’s new wallet is not being built from scratch: Gram Wallet is being developed in collaboration with the My Wallet team (formerly MyTonWallet). The project includes native integration directly into Telegram apps, as well as a standalone iOS/Android app and a web version. Telegram’s wallet is fully non-custodial.

Gram Wallet to Get a Dedicated Smart Contract New lines of code related to a dedicated smart contract for the upcoming Gram Wallet in Telegram have appeared on GitHub. They already reveal several potential features of the wallet: • The smart contract code can be updated centrally for all wallets through the TON configuration. Changes will be applied after a validator vote, without requiring users to update each wallet individually. • The contract supports gasless transactions – transaction fees can be paid in the token being transferred. For example, when transferring USDT, users will be able to pay the fee in USDT even if they have no GRAM in their balance. • The contract supports batch operations – up to 255 messages in a single call. This will allow multiple transfers to be combined into one operation, for example, sending 10 GRAM to multiple wallets at once. • The contract includes the ability to link a Telegram ID to a wallet. An experimental branch is already testing the storage of the Telegram ID directly in the smart contract data. • Additional features, including 2FA and subscriptions, could be added at the contract level in the future. Like other wallets, Gram Wallet will support tokens, NFTs, and connections to dApps via TON Connect.

TON Is Preparing for Increased Network Load In the TON Status channel, validators were asked to prepare for possible increased load on the blockchain. Similar warnings were previously issued ahead of airdrops by major services, such as Hamster and Combot. It is possible that the blockchain is preparing for increased load related to the launch of the non-custodial wallet Gram Wallet in Telegram, which Pavel Durov previously announced for this summer.

Gram Wallet from My Wallet My Wallet (formerly MyTonWallet) launched a separate wallet — Gram Wallet. In the new application, priority is given to the TON blockchain, tokens of this network, as well as functions related to Telegram: • Users can set two-factor authentication (2FA) on their W5 wallet and confirm transactions via Telegram. Even if a scammer gains access to your seed phrases, they will still need to confirm transactions via Telegram to steal funds. In the event of a Telegram hack, your funds will remain secure if the attacker does not know the seed phrases. • Avatars in the wallet. If a user has an NFT in the form of @usermame and has linked a .t.me domain to the wallet, then in the wallet settings their avatar from Telegram will be displayed. MyTonWallet changed its name to My Wallet and will continue to develop as a multi-chain wallet. In the future, developers plan to add support for Bitcoin, as well as many other blockchains.

Renaming TON to GRAM Pavel Durov announced, that the 4th step of MTONGA is the renaming of the native coin Toncoin to Gram. Only the coin ticker will change to GRAM, while the blockchain name will remain The Open Network (TON). The post contains a link to the future website gram.org. There is a public vote on TON Vote, in which any user can participate and contribute funds to the vote. If more than 50% vote "For", the coin ticker will be changed. It is important to note that users do not need to take any action with Toncoin; the coins will automatically change their name in their wallets. #MTONGA

Happy Birthday, TON! Today marks the 5th anniversary of The Open Network's mainnet – TON's first major milestone. On November 15, 2019, TON launched testnet2, and on May 26, 2021, the testnet2 network was renamed to Mainnet. Later, in August 2021, the domain ton.org and the TON repositories were transferred to the TON Foundation.

Zero-Fee Transactions Pavel Durov announced that within a week, transaction fees on the TON blockchain will be reduced by 6 times, reaching as low as 0.00039 TON regardless of network load. It is also reported that after a major blockchain upgrade, fees for most transactions could become zero.
