BREWINGUPASTORM 9/1 generally - 0.5 POINTS E/W
BREWINGUPTHESTORM is back to handicap company for the first time since January 2021, when winning at Taunton by 11 lengths, off a handicap mark of 148, which is 1lb higher than his handicap mark of 147 today. Since that run over 3 years ago he has contested 10 Grade 1 or 2s and won two Grade 2 races, with multiple places in Grade 1 and Grade 2 company. He is a very good horse and although he is now an 11 year old, he has ran two great races this season with a 2nd to West Balboa at Aintree and a 3rd to Bob Olinger last time out, in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham. He showed in that race that he retains plenty of ability and this is a big step down in class.
He does have to carry top weight and trainer Olly Murphy could have used a claimer but instead he is happy to have Sean Bowen on board, who I am sure will be trying his heart out given he is fighting it out with Harry Cobden for the jockeys title.
I think he is a huge price and offers excellent value. E/W.
3:40 Doncaster
UNDERSUPERVISION 9/1 generally - 0.75 POINTS E/W (4 places, 1/5 odds)
UNDERSUPERVISION finished 2nd in this race last year off a handicap mark of 132 and also won this race back in 2022 off the same handicap mark of 132. Today he lines up on a mark of 134 and you can pretty much guarantee he has been primed as if this is his gold cup. You can put a line through his last run as it was over the National fences as those fences are hit and miss. That race was also back in December and he could have gone to Cheltenham since for a couple of meetings or anywhere else, but he has been kept nice and fresh purposely for this race. | 4 | Elliott's runners at Navan Conditions will be very testing as things will be extremely heavy but we kick things off with the 4yo maiden hurdle where we have SOMEONE’S WISH. He has had one start over hurdles to date and conditions today probably won’t be to his liking but will further his experience and Sam Ewing is booked to ride.
For the mares maiden hurdle we have INSTANT TENDANCE and LAZY BONES. Instant Tendance put in some really nice form figures and is edging ever closer to the win. Sam Ewing is booked to ride while Jack is suspended. Lazy Bones was a faller the last day but ran very well on debut. Hopefully that form can come about again with Jordan Gainford in the saddle.
For the first handicap we have EBASARI who has a lofty 12st to carry but we have Danny Gilligan in the saddle to take off 5lbs in the process. It’ll be a tough ask but he may be up to it.
LOUGH OWEL and LAST ROUND go in the warm looking maiden hurdle. Lough Owel has plenty of experience now but may need a step up in trip, Danny Gilligan rides and claims 5lbs. Last Round looks a nice newcomer who will be partnered by Jody McGarvey.
In the Grade 2 Webster Cup we have ASH TREE MEADOW and ANDY DUFRESNE. Ash Tree Meadow ran only 6 days ago and may want better ground here with Sam booked to ride. Andy Dufresne will need to put together a very good round to feature here with Jordan Gainford booked to ride.
We round off the card with JUMPING JET in the mares handicap chase. She has kept lovely company to date and goes off top weight here. Danny Gilligan has been booked to ride and claims 5lbs. | 139 |

PRICES CORRECT AT THE TIME OF SENDING
2:08 Newcastle
MAJOR DUNDEE 9/1 generally - 0.75 POINTS E/W (5 places Will Hill and Sky Bet)
MAJOR DUNDEE looks a hell of a price here and massive value. Trainer Alan King's horses are flying along at the moment, as is jockey Tom Bellamy who is a very underrated jockey and does not get the credit he deserves. We will have to put a line through his last run in a handicap chase at Warwick when he was pulled up but I have no doubt he is better than that. He lines up on a handicap mark of 132 and this race is not the greatest looking Eider Chase. It certainly is not as hot as his previous races. He was 5th in the Welsh National, a winner of a Midlands National last year, 3rd in the Scottish National in 2022, and these marathon trips bring the best out of him. When winning the Midlands National he was rated 129 so is only 3lb higher in the weights today. When 3rd in the Scottish National he was rated 132, exactly the same mark as today, while when 5th in the Welsh National, he was rated 137. As mentioned above this is not the strongest renewal and I make him half the price of what he is. For that reason I am happy to raise the stake with 5 places on offer and only 13 runners. E/W.
2:27 Kempton
TAHMURAS 10/3 with William Hill and Bet 365 - 1 POINT WIN
This is a very competitive renewal of the Pendil Novice Chase and I have spent a lot of time going over every angle. The top weight Le Patron has it all to do in my opinion as he is 17lb worse off with Blow Your Wad, although the latter has to make up 10 lengths but has since gone on and won.
Pembroke is dangerous, if on song but his jumping has a bit suspect at times and can't be trusted.
While Arclight comes here in form and gets Mares weight allowance, it has often been said in the past by Nicky Henderson, that she wants better ground.
I was left with Blow Your Wad and the improving TAHMURAS who really should have won last time out. He did everything right but drifted left in the closing stages. Even so it was a credible effort as the winner Crebily is a nice horse and even back in 3rd was Trelawne, another decent horse.
TAHMURAS was a winner on his penultimate start at Aintree and has improved with every start over fences.
He loves soft ground and he also loves going right handed with his form around Right Handed courses reads, 112. Kempton is a course which should really suit and TAHMURAS is the worthy favourite. | 12 | Gordon Elliott's mob out at Gowran today For the opening race of the day we have two runners; SOMEONE’S WISH and BARRIER. Someone’s wish is making his debut for the yard having come from the flat so he will improve for anything he does here today. Barrier improved greatly last time out when second the last day behind Ndaawi. She has a fillies allowance and could go close with Jack in the irons.
For the Grade 3 RedMills trial hurdle we have WHAT’S UP DARLING. He carries a penalty here having already won a Grade 3 contest. He was 5th in Grade 1 company the last day behind Farren Glory. He will have his work cut out for him but he looks a classy horse, with Jack Kennedy in the saddle.
For the Full Circle Series we have 4 runners. RETURN TO BASE will have Carl Millar claiming 7. She pulled up the last day at Christmas but can hopefully improve. RODANICHE will have to show improvement to feature here with Sam booked to ride, first time blinkers are applied. First time cheekpieces go on BESTALINE she has shown some improvement here and Danny Gilligan takes away 5lbs. NATHAN WELLS is Jack’s pick of the bunch and was 4th on handicap debut, Hunting Brook is 3rd reserve.
For the next Graded race we have EMBITTERED and RIVIERE D’ETEL. Embittered last ran at DRF but the smaller field here should suit better with Sam in the saddle. Riviere D’etel makes a quick return but will have the lightest weight to carry, Jack Kennedy rides.
SAINT FELICIEN tries his hand in a beginners chase again. He has placed in all his starts so far and in hot company. This looks wide open and Jack rides.
CAVALRY MASTER goes in the handicap chase and has first time blinkers and we claim with Danny Gilligan.
For the bumper we have INSTANT TENDANCE who was a good second the last time and tries again with Harry doing the steering claiming 5lbs. | 226 |
| 13 | That leaves me with RARE EDITION, a horse who has always threatened to be top class and I think he could still have a few more pounds up his sleeve now up to 139 and stepping up in trip. He has always looked to have a touch of class and he showed just how classy he was last year at Kempton, when demolishing a good horse in Rubaud who is now rated 149. RARE EDITION is that highly thought of, he went to the Cheltenham Festival for the Supreme Novice Hurdle and the Grade 1 Novice at Aintree a month later. He didn't feature in either but those races were at the very top and for them to consider those sort of races, it tells you what trainer Charlie Longsden thinks of the horse.
His season started at Doncaster over 2 miles, when coming home 3rd to Geromino at Doncaster. He should have probably been winning that race but they did take out the four hurdles in the back straight because of low sun, so the race become a flat race and didn't play to his strengths.
Last time out he won at Kempton again over 2 miles and although it was a weak looking race, he had to dig deep and I liked his attitude. He made a mistake at the 2nd last hurdle but still rallied with 12 stone on his back, despite being flat out for a long way.
For me it was a sign of a horse who really needed to go up in trip and when he did go up in trip, he would improve considerably. Today he is up to 2m 3f which is absolutely perfect in my eyes.
Charlie Longsden confirmed what I thought after his win at Kempton, by saying 'he wants an extra half a mile' and that he would be flat out in a Betfair Hurdle over 2 miles.
That means they have skipped last week's £87k Betfair Hurdle for today's £26k handicap all because he wants today's trip.
They have also managed to secure Harry Cobden, the best jockey in the race without doubt and the jockey who won this race last year on Irish Hill. Having him in the saddle is always worth half a stone as he seems to have his horses in all the right positions the majority of the time.
RARE EDITION is rated 139 and will have to carry 11st 7lb, so it is not going to be easy but for me his class can win him this race along with the class of the jockey, along with the step up in trip.
He is also a horse who seems to be much better going right handed. His form going right handed reads 121 and Ascot will suit him very well.
I am quietly confident that come the end of the race, RARE EDITION can win our 4th Bonus Race in 15 months.

| 14 | JPW 2:25 ASCOT - RARE EDITION - 1 POINT E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds - Tipping Service.
Here we go again as we chase down the Bonus on offer of £39,165. We have already won £92k last weekend and we now look to take those winnings past £130k.
It is quite crazy to think over the last 15 months we have won the Scoop 6 Win Fund 6 (possibly 7 times), we have won it that much I have lost track haha, along with 3 Bonus Races.
As always I put my heart and soul into all my work and I have spent the last week going over this race and every angle has been looked at and every thought process has gone through my head. My selection for the race was actually made on Thursday and all I was waiting for was the go ahead that this race was chosen. We got confirmation yesterday morning and I am still very confident we are on the right horse here.
We will touch up on a few horses who made the shortlist before moving on to our selection.
Over the last 24 hours all the money has come for Irish Hill who is trained by Paul Nicholls. I can see why he is being latched on to, as he won the race last year in good style and is now 8lb lower, if you take into consideration Freddie Gingell's 5lb claim. The trouble I have is he doesn't arrive into this race in the same form this season. When winning this race last year, he came into the race on the back of 2 wins like last year, whereas this season he is yet to win and has only been running off marks 3lb higher than winning this race last year. For me he has not looked the same. Of course Paul Nicholls could have trained him specifically for this race and it has been the plan all year but if that is the case, why are not using Harry Cobden who was on board last year? He has opted to use Freddie Gingell to claim 5lb instead and although Freddie Gingell is an excellent jockey, I just feel there is a bit of weakness in Paul Nicholls mind and a little lack of confidence, if he don't think Irish Hill can win off a 1lb lower mark than last year, with Harry Cobden on board.
That is not to say he can't or won't win, as he is clearly well handicapped on old form but I just would have liked to have seen more from the horse this season so far and more conviction from Paul Nicholls about who rides Irish Hill.
The Ben Pauling trained Bad looks to be on a fair handicap mark and he comes into the race on the back of wind surgery. He is rated 122 and has run some nice races this season, although if he could not win a Class 4 last time out when everything was in his favour, he will need to improve massively to win this competitive handicap. He is up in trip which I have my reservations about as he has been pretty keen in the past and I am not sure going slower will help him settle any better. Since arriving from France he has not won a race yet and although he still has more improvement at the age of 5, I can't back a horse who is yet to win when we are trying to find the winner for nearly £40k.
Nicky Henderson trained Hyland has been good this season with 2 wins and a 3rd but he has been running over 3 miles on his last two starts and surely 2m 3f is on the short side for him. He has potential and he could travel nicely into the race but I just wonder if he will get done for speed.
Monviel has been chasing this season and that has not worked out. This is his first run back over hurdles so he has to adapt to the smaller hurdles once again. He has good form over hurdles in the past but could still not win or even place in similar races, at the back end of last season.
While Jay Jay Reilly improved last time out, he has gone up the handicap 7lb and he has a task on his hand with a climb like that.
Of the rest I can see Santos Blue running a nice race along with Rambo T, but when you only have one selection for this race, it is hard to put up a horse at 16/1 as we just need the winner of the race and this has nothing to do with value. | 149 |

EDWARDSTONE 13/8 generally - 1.5 POINTS WIN
EDWARSTONE is my NAP of the day and he is going to be very hard to beat in my opinion. It was only at last season's Cheltenham Festival he was sent off 15/8 for the Champion Chase and although he was poor that day, he has shown he retains his ability with two 2nds, behind Jonbon this season. He stepped up in trip last time out and basically didn't get home over 2m 4f, showing he is clearly more suited to 2 miles. Although he didn't quite stay 2m 4f last time out, he does get further than 2 miles so in this ground you would expect Edwardstone to be the one staying on at the finish. He is the classiest in the race and I think it will take a top class performance to get him beat. WIN.
3:15 Newbury
OCASTLE DES MOTTES – 5/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
DODDIETHEGREAT 25/1 generally - 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race.
I always had OCASTLE DES MOTTES in the back of my mind as Willie Mullins is not bringing this horse over for nothing. I guess the main reason they are bringing him over is down to his handicap mark. He has been given a handicap mark of 139 in Ireland yet in the UK he has a handicap mark of 133. Someone has messed up here as it is always the other way around, where your Irish handicap mark is lower than your UK one. He really could be 10lb well in here and Willie Mullins is simply exploiting the UK handicapper, it is as simple as that.
This is his first run for Willie Mullins as he was purchased from France for Simon Munir. He comes over with a decent reputation after winning two decent handicaps in France.
Willie Mullins does very well with this type of horse and we know from his form in France, he loves deep ground.
Mullins is simply a master and this could really be a case, at the end of the race, where we say, how did that go off 5/1 with how far he is ahead of the handicapper. E/W.
Although an 8 year old, I don't think we have seen the best of the lightly raced DODDIETHEGREAT. He has had 5 career starts, that is how lightly raced he is for his age. He did pick up a bad injury back in 2021 which resulted in him having 746 days off the track. That is over 2 years off the track but he still bounced back with a win at Ascot in November and this was followed up with an excellent 2nd at Cheltenham in December. | 18 | Heres JPW PRICES CORRECT AT THE TIME OF SENDING
1:50 Leopardstown
KALA CONTI 15/2 generally - 0.75 POINTS E/W
The strong favourite here is Storm Heart who is trained by Willie Mullins. No doubt he was visually impressive when winning by 22 lengths at Punchestown last time out and he may well improve again. The trouble I have and the reason at this stage I am happy to take him on at the price is, I am not convinced by the quality of the field he beat and I believe a few more in this race may well have done the same thing. He could obviously win, he look a good horse but he is not for me at 6/4 and I will be taking him on with KALA CONTI who is improving with every start. The Gordon Elliott trained horse has been running at a decent level on his last two starts, a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse in December where he came home 2nd and then he stepped up to Grade 2 company over the Christmas period, at this course, winning by a length, to another of todays runners in Kargese. I think KALA CONTI has much more to come as he didn't settle that well last time out, yet won with a bit in hand and jumped well on the whole. like the fact that KALA CONTI has winning form at the course and not only winning form, but Grade 2 winning form.
I think he makes the frame at the very least and with a bit of luck and improvement, he can give the favourite plenty to think about. E/W.
3:10 Sandown
WEST BALBOA 7/1 generally - 1 POINT E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
I am surprised WEST BALBOA is a big a price as she is. Yes she has to carry top weight but this is a graded horse running in a handicap off a mark of 143. Last time out she was sent off 3/1 fav for a the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot against horses like Crambo, Paisley Park, Champ, Dashel Drasher. She underperformed trailing in last, but I am happy to put a line through that form as it was Grade 1 company and she was having an off day, as Mares do so often.
Previous to that she was an easy winner at Aintree and back last year, an easy winner again Aintree in a competitive handicap, off an 8lb lower handicap mark.
WEST BALBOA is a very lightly raced 8 year old with just 7 runs to her name, so she still has plenty of improvement to come.
She also likes going right handed as she was 2nd at this course last year, coming back from 339 days off the track and followed this up with a win in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton.
Tristan Durrell takes the ride and he claims 3lb bringing her weight down slightly and looking through the field, I don't see many horses as classy as WEST BALBOA.
