Research and collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) has been given a shot in the arm with the official launch of the NUS Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (NUSAIL) on Mon, 21 Feb. Hosted at NUS Computing, NUSAIL’s mission is to be a centre of excellence in AI research, education, and practice. It started as a self-initiated effort among faculty members who taught AI at NUS Computing. The event also saw the introduction of Rosetta, an initiative started by faculty members at NUS Computing. The special interest group brings together faculty members in NUS who teach AI courses in a spirit of dialogue and collaboration so as to leverage each other’s strengths and support each other in the field of AI education. ➡️ nus.edu/3IgwEXY

Assoc Prof Martin Henz is bringing NUS Computing to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology! A/P Henz recently started his sabbatical as a Visiting Scholar at MIT, where he’s just finished teaching a small course called "A Taste of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs, Java Script Edition (SICP JS)", in late January. The course was offered as part of MIT’s Independent Activities Period, and was open to all MIT students, staff, and alumni. ⚙️ 💻 As a special perk, legendary computer science educator Gerald Jay Sussman — the original co-author of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs — also participated in the course as a ‘student’ along with his wife, computer programmer Julie Sussman. For four second-year Computer Science students who volunteered to help A/P Henz facilitate a segment of his online classes (dubbed studio sessions), this means they’ve earned eternal bragging rights! 🤩 Read more in our Instagram post below! ➡️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CaEZ9Gsu7Lh/

The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and NUS renewed an agreement on Tuesday to continue its joint research collaboration through the IPAL, a French-Singaporean International Research Laboratory formed in 1998. Congrats to StaffAny for securing US$3.4 million in funding! The startup, founded by a team of alumni from NUS and the NUS Overseas Colleges programme, helps businesses with a blue-collar workforce to optimise their staff scheduling, time-tracking and end-of-month time sheet consolidation. 📂 🕐 💪 Did You Know: StaffAny was previously located at the Furnace, an early-stage startup incubator in NUS? They were also a recipient of NUS Computing's Venture Initiation Program (VIP) grant, a 1-year grant that awards NUS student teams a cool $10,000 to work on their startup idea. P.S. We're also giving a special shoutout to our alumnus Jeremy Hon (Computer Science, Class of 2018), co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at StaffAny! 😉 🔗 Learn more about our VIP@SoC grant: https://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/entrepreneurship/furnace/application/overview/ ➡️ https://www.straitstimes.com/business/companies-markets/start-up-staffany-founded-by-nus-grads-raises-46-million-in-funding
