🔆Gotipua ✅It is a traditional dance form in the state of Odisha, India, and the precursor of Odissi classical dance. ✅It has been performed in Orissa for centuries by young boys, who dress as women to praise Jagannath and Krishna. It is popularly known as Bandha Nritya. ✅The dance is executed by a group of boys who perform acrobatic figures inspired by the life of Radha and Krishna. ✅The boys begin to learn the dance at an early age until adolescence when their androgynous appearance changes. ✅In the Odia language, Gotipua means "single boy". Raghurajpur, Odisha (near Puri) is a historic village known for its Gotipua dance troupes. ✅The dance of the Gotipuas is accompanied by traditional Odissi music with the primary percussion being the Mardala(Percussive Instrument). #gs3 #art_and_culture

🔆 Kedarnath Temple ✅It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. ✅Location: It is located at a height of 3,584 meters on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river, in the Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand. ✅Kedarnath forms one of the four sites of the Chota Char DhamPilgrimage circuit, and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India. ✅Who build it? It is said that the Pandavas constructed the Kedarnath Temple which was later reconstructed by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century A.D. ▪️Architecture: ✅It has exquisite architecture and is built of extremely large but evenly shaped grey stone slabs. ✅The stone slabs are interlocked with each other with the use of iron clamps. ✅No mortar has been used in the construction of the temple. ✅There is a conical rock structure inside the Kedarnath temple that is worshipped as the Sadashiva form of Shiva. ✅A “Garba Griha” for worship and a Mandap for pilgrims is placed inside the temple. ▪️What is Chota Char Dham Yatra? ✅It refers to the journey up the mountains to four sacred temples in the North Indian state of Uttarakhand. ✅The four temples that comprise Chota Char Dham are Yamunotri Dham, Gangotri Dham, Badrinath Dham and Kedarnath Dham. ▪️What are Jyotirlingas? ✅A Jyotirlinga is a shrine where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlingam. ✅There are currently 12 main Jyotirlingas in India. ✅The 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India take the name of the presiding deity. 🔆Sant Mirabai:- ✅Mirabai was born into a Rajput royal family in Kudki, Rajasthan’s Pali region, and spent her youth in Merta. ✅By around 1600 CE, she was referenced in Bhaktamal, indicating that she was a well-known and revered figure in the Bhakti movement. ✅Mirabai was a Rajput princess who married a prince from the royal family. ✅She became a follower of Ravidas, a saint who was said to be untouchable. ✅She committed her life to Lord Krishna’s devotion. ✅She was the first to introduce the Giridhara Gopala cult of Brindavan and also the first to introduce Bhajan in the Bhakti movement ✅Her bhajans were composed in the language of Vraj Bhasha. ✅Meerabai’s five teachings are:- ✅She did not believe in the caste hierarchy and instead attacked higher caste standards. ✅She fled the kingdom because of her great devotion to Lord Krishna. ✅She was not a follower of kingly traditions. ✅She preached love while avoiding hatred. ✅Despite being from the royal family, she became a follower of Ravidas, who was considered untouchable. #art_and_culture @upsc_art_and_culture
