If you need sort order for storage, that is a property of the storage, not a property of the type. I'm doing code review for a fairly experienced colleague who has not seen Titus Winter's C++Now talk from 2018 Maybe you haven't either: https://youtu.be/2UmDvg5xv1U?t=2990 >If you need sort order for storage, that is a property of the storage, not a property of the type. In our specific case, we have certain financial instruments - there is no "correct" way to sort financial instruments. Numerically by return on investment? Alphabetically by ISIN code? Through business logic - ordered by which portfolio that has the paper? In our case, they needed to go into a set, and if you haven't read the header for std::set, you may think it requires your types to implement operator< But if you actually go to the header (or read cppreferences.com) template< class Key, class Compare = std::less<Key>, class Allocator = std::allocator<Key> > class set; By default your set wants your types to be orderable by std::less but you can provide set a different comparator. if your type is something like class FinancialInstrument { public: std::string const & Isin() const; double RoI(); }; you can do something like struct IsinOrdering { bool operator()(FinancialInstrument const & rhs, FinancialInstrument const & lhs) { return rhs.Isin() < lhs.Isin(); } }; std::set<FinancialInstrument,IsinOrdering> instruments; https://godbolt.org/z/xK46vd And now you haven't forced the next person using FinancialInstrument to use the specific sort order you needed right now today and thus made part of the class by implementing operator<. Does it take literally zero seconds to write a comparator struct? No, of course not. But it doesn't take any longer than writing operator<, either. https://redd.it/m5ij2m @r_cpp

How do you find duplicate elements in an array I'm trying to code a program wherein a user inputs the elements of an array and the program determines if there are any duplicate elements then displays those duplicate elements. I already know how to display the data but I have no idea how to search each array for duplicates. Please help https://redd.it/m5imcn @r_cpp

C++ or Qt lib SSL transparent proxy (like: mitmproxy.org) Assalamu'alaykum Everyone. &#x200B; I was looking for a C++ (or Qt lib) SSL transparent proxy [just like mitmproxy.org, but in C++ (or Qt lib)\]. Can anyone suggest your preferred one? I have been searching in internet for about a month, but nothing satisfies the compatibility or seems complex. I am not familiar with SSL PROXY mechanism, (though I was able to implement HTTP PROXY, but not the SSL/HTTPS). Any reference to study? I am happy to write on my own. &#x200B; Thanks! https://redd.it/m5aauw @r_cpp

Tooling Memcheck-cover: A valgrind's memcheck tool wrapper and HTML report generator -- v1.2 Hello, It's been a while since the v1.1 release of my "Memcheck-Cover" project. I've been improving it a bit lately and I'm proud to present you the 3rd release today : https://github.com/Farigh/memcheck-cover/releases/tag/release-1.2 This new version fixes some bugs. It also adds two features: \- Path prefix substitution (in order to shorten some paths from the report) \- Source control server link generation (It supports GitHub, GitLab and BitBucket link syntax for now) Here is a demo : https://david-garcin.github.io/demos/memcheck-cover/index.html Don't hesitate to try it, share it, suggest improvements to it and open issues :) Thanks, https://redd.it/m5216w @r_cpp

What if I use “new” keyword inside of a destructor? I had a quiz in my college today and my teacher asked this question. I skipped it but now I’m curious that what would be the result. Do you have any idea? https://redd.it/m4xp2c @r_cpp

How to make a vector from the position of a player sprite to the mouse In my C++ class in college, we were told to do this to make a projectile fire from a player sprite and told to find the vector from the player sprite to the mouse. My professor never explained how to do this after saying he would and isn't responding to my emails. So how would I go about doing this? I am really new to C++ so I apologize if I don't quite understand what you are saying. https://redd.it/m4y32x @r_cpp

C++ training course I know the basics of C++ and I've programmed in C decently. My company supports 2 or 3 days of training every year. I'd like to use it for learning C++ this year. I understand that C++ is NOT something one can learn in a few days. But my goal is to use the company funding support. Anyone can recommend some 2 or 3 days C++ training course? I'm ok with paid courses. I'm fine with either pre-recorded videos or lead by interactive instructors. Thank you all. https://redd.it/m4uqai @r_cpp

How to replace different strings with the same string in several files using Notepad++ Hi all, I'm not familiar with C++ at all but I read that Notepad++ is based on C++ so maybe you can help me. I need to replace in several files different strings with the same string, here's an example of the original string: <a href="cdn-cgi/testfile.html#hjjkil68809kjgfgui098r6gu" target="_blank"> to be replaced with <`"mailto:test@test.com`"> My problem is due to the fact that the above mentioned string is different in all files ( i.e. <a href="cdn-cgi/testfile.html#yutyuo745239pj99567" target="_blank"> ) so I cannot make a standard search and replace action. What I need to do is replacing everything starting with <a href="cdn-cgi/ and ending with target="_blank"> in the same string with <`"mailto:test@test.com`"> I need to do it in Notepad++, can you please help me? Many thanks for your help. Mark https://redd.it/m4t7iu @r_cpp

Messing around with enums Hi everyone. I've often seen in companies things to improve enum usability, but I always disliked the way this was done. For example the END or COUNT value at the end of the enum declaration to know how many different values there is, or repetitive switch case to manage the enum -> string conversion. For fun I tried to solve that and this is what came out, improved_enum: https://godbolt.org/z/rnzd5K It only does three things: tell you the number of enum values, gives you an enum -> string_view conversion and an array containing all possible values. There are still a couple of things that I'm still bothered with: enums can not have arbitrary values, the declaration must be through the macro and the to_string function does some processing every-time it's called (maybe I could have an array like the all_enum_values). I wanted to know what you people think about it. What improvement would you like to see? Would you see yourself using something like that? https://redd.it/m4n1e7 @r_cpp

How useful would it be to go through Vandevoorde and Josuttis after C++20? One of the appendixes does cover concepts, but the book as a whole is still C++17 standard. Would it still be useful to go through it for reasons: other than the demand for developers who can fix and maintain legacy code, of course? I'm still getting used to 20, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. My impression is that concepts replace certain things about templates (like SFINAE) but not the need to understand them as a whole. https://redd.it/m4b413 @r_cpp
