I would say mobile phones have already become integral part of our daily life. Although living without a phone may sound something far-fetched, I had to go on a two-day digital detox and was deprived of all my gadgets including my phone. Here I would like to talk about it.
I remember It was in the last summer in lockdown when I was completely idle. I felt symptoms of addiction to a phone. Even I analyzed my daily screen time, which showed more than 13 hours of use in a day. After that I was shocked and decided to challenge myself. Shortly afterwards I had a lucky coincidence that by scrolling Instagram I found a special program, called ‘techno-free days’, that organized events for two days in suburbs for those who wanted to stay away from gadgets for a while. Then I made up my mind to give it a go!
As far as I remember the only reason why I could not use my phone was because I had no phone available. The minute we were taken to a nice yard in outskirts of the city, the instructor took away all the electronic devices from participants and masterfully pointed out if we had secretly made use of our phones, we would have been out. Well, instead we, there were six of us, started to engage in real life conversations, going out for walks, hiking and swimming.
And truthfully speaking on the first day I felt so disconnected. Curiosity to read the latest sport news or reading new article about recent scientific projects nearly killed me. But I had to make a quick adjustment to the situation and later realized benefits of those techno-free days. That is, I could accomplish more as long as I am not distracted by my phone. Also, without a phone I felt more relieved because of having less worries.
