The Iraqi parliament and Iraqi government bodies have launched multiple oppressive attacks on #LGBT+ people. A week ago, the media regulator in Iraq issued an order banning the use of the term "homosexuality" and replacing it with the term "sexual deviants" when speaking about LGBT+ people. Yesterday, the Iraqi parliament started reading the first draft amending the horrific "anti-prostitution" law to formally include and criminalize LGBT+ people and the promotion of queer rights. The law criminalizes LGBT+ identities, criminalizes transitioning, and punishes LGBT+ relationships with up to the DEATH PENALTY. The disgusting attack on fundamental human rights is nothing but an attempt to distract the public from the governments failure to address any of the Iraqi people's needs. This law would be a violation of Iraq's constitution and the country's commitments under international law.
