Did you know the US once bombed itself? 39 years ago today, US police bombed the HQ of Black liberation organization MOVE, killing 11 people, including five children. After dropping a bomb on the roof, Philadelphia mounted a massive assault on the HQ and opened fire on those who tried to flee. Happy birthday to the former Black Panther revolutionary and scholar Kathleen Cleaver! Watch her respond to the question of nonviolence, arguing that “non-violence is non-functional.” Inspired by the party’s radical approach to addressing anti-racism and class struggle, Cleaver joined the Black Panther Party in 1967 after meeting Eldridge Cleaver. She became the first woman to be included in the Black Panther Party’s Central Committee, the highest decision-making body within the organization. As the Communications Secretary, she was responsible for writing speeches, delivering them nationwide, and serving as a media spokesperson. 🟡 Join @theredstream 🟡 Boost our channel 🟡 YouTube 🟡 Instagram 🟡 Patreon

Brazil’s Landless Workers Movement (MST has stepped in to provide food aid to flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul state. The social movement has prepared around 30,000 food parcels to deliver in the state. So far, 83 people have died and 121,957 have been displaced. Among them are 420 families who are part of the MST and live on lands that have been taken over. The MST have numerous "encampments", usually lands that are unused by their owners, and the MST organize to take them back and make them productive in a collective manner. 🟡 Join @theredstream 🟡 Boost our channel 🟡 YouTube 🟡 Instagram 🟡 Patreon

Today’s Victory Day, marking the defeat of Nazi Germany, we remember one of the most famous moments from newly liberated Berlin. The video shows Maria Limanskaya, a young Red Army woman, dancing and directing traffic in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Limanskaya was born in Volgograd and joined the war in 1942 in the ranks of the Red Army when she was only 18 years old. She was thrown into the unbelievably difficult task of capturing Berlin. A cameraman named Anatoly Aronov captured her performance on film, and it immediately went viral worldwide. After the war, she returned to her native village and worked at a library before becoming a nurse. It was there that she saw her famous photo for the first time, shown by one of her patients in the “Rabotnitsa” (The Woman Worker) magazine. Maria Limanskaya was awarded the medals “For the Liberation of Warsaw,” “For the Capture of Berlin,” and “For Victory over Germany.” She is still alive today at the age of 100. 🟡 Join @theredstream

Student encampments in solidarity with Palestine are spreading across Europe like wildfire. What began as a militant student movement reminiscent of Vietnam War-era protests in the US has now led to a global chain reaction. Students worldwide are occupying campuses, demanding their universities divest from Israel and put an end to their complicity in the ongoing Gaza genocide. Here is a map of all ongoing university encampments across Europe. 🟡 Join @theredstream 🟡 Boost our channel 🟡 YouTube 🟡 Instagram 🟡 Patreon

Today, Dutch police forcefully evicted a pro-Palestine encampment in Amsterdam, leaving several students injured. Following yesterday's eviction, the students quickly constructed a new camp to continue their protest against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The police assault, involving batons, resulted in severe injuries among the demonstrators. Both students and supporters suffered skull injuries, which led to bleeding, and facial fractures. 🟡 Join @theredstream 🟡 Boost our channel 🟡 YouTube 🟡 Instagram 🟡 Patreon
