Azerbaijan’s Parliamentary Speaker Sahiba Gafarova arrived in Addis Abeba on Tuesday for an official visit to Ethiopia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Gafarova, who serves as the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was received at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport by Lomi Bedo, Deputy Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives (HPR), alongside Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, MoFA said.
During her visit, Gafarova is expected to hold talks with senior Ethiopian government officials focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Azerbaijan, including cooperation in political, economic and other areas.
The visit comes amid expanding ties between the two countries marked by increased diplomatic engagement, defense cooperation and efforts to deepen trade relations.

The #Hawassa City High Court has sentenced former Sidama Regional Peace and Security Bureau head #Alemayehu_Timotewos to 10 years and five months of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of abusing his official authority to organize an armed group known as the Sidama Liberation Army (SLA), according to the Sidama Regional Justice Bureau.
The court also convicted former Sidama Regional Police Commissioner Shimelis Thomas in the same case. The Justice Bureau said the court relied on witness testimony and documentary evidence in concluding that the two officials abused their positions to establish the armed group and committed multiple human rights violations.
