S&P fell by 1.1% Hey Tribe, 1.1% drop is not a small move. Historically, a 1.1% move in a day happens lesser than 10% of the time in the market Here's the reasons (source from ibkr) Data and rising rates send stocks lower The stock market initially traded higher, but gains faded quickly as participants responded to the economic releases at 10:00 ET. Treasury yields also shot higher as stocks declined in response to a stronger-than-expected ISM Services PMI reading for December and a November JOLTS - Job Openings Report that showed a noticeable increase in job openings. The added wrinkle in the ISM Services PMI is that it also featured a notable pickup in the Prices Index (to 64.4% from 58.2%), which topped the 60.0% level for the first time since January 2024. The 10-yr yield was at 4.63% ahead of the data and settled at 4.68%, seven basis points higher than yesterday. Losses in the major indices were fairly muted until the S&P 500 slid below its 50-day moving average (5,950), which drew in additional selling interest. The S&P 500 closed 1.1% lower and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.9%.

[Decode Financial Reports in 7 Minutes] Hey Tribe, When I started investing, it is so confusing how to get started! Companies will be reporting earnings again and whenever they issue a report, it will useful for investors to read them.. but How? Here's a guide to read them in 7 minutes! Minute 1: Start with the Big Picture Begin with the Chairman’s or CEO’s Statement. Focus on: The first and last two paragraphs to understand the company’s recent performance and future outlook. Look for mentions of strategic growth, challenges faced, and upcoming priorities. What to Spot: Positive Sign: Clear and optimistic plans for the future. Red Flag: Overly vague or pessimistic language. Minute 2: Check the Income Statement This is where you’ll assess profitability. Look for: Net Profit: Is it rising or falling compared to the previous year? Revenue (Sales): Is it increasing or stagnant? Margins: Review gross and operating margins for efficiency. [1st 0 DTE Trades of 2025 ~ ] +USD$2445.73 Hey Tribe Wanted to close the loop especially if you joined last night. My positions all expired worthless last night even though the price hit my goal post at 2:55am but the position did not exited. I went to check back at the data using 5830 strike and 0 DTE today as a proxy, when it hit goal post at 2:55am, the position is in profits even if it hits goal post. This is largely time decay and high volatility. I understand this maybe advanced for those who are new to investing, so next Tuesday, i will be starting our Tribe Training on Investing Foundations into Stocks and Options. 3. Trade OFTEN! This is counter to my previous value based, buy and hold strategy. Trading very often is beneficial for 2 reasons Reason 1: Law of Large Numbers If we have a strategy that wins 80% of the time, and have positive expected payoff, we need to trade often and as much as possible for the law of large numbers to take place. Imagine you are a casino, and all your games are in your favour, would you prefer only 1 or 2 customer entering your casino, or would you want as many customers as possible? Which gives you more profits? Which is riskier. I will argue having lesser customers is risky. Imagine having 1 customer that day coming to play the roulette, placing the biggest bet he can on black/red and only placing 1 Bet. Even though i have a 52.6% of winning, the chance of him winning is still 47.4. i.e, almost half the time, he may win. As a casino, I will be very stressed over that 1 bet and may end up losing that night. BUT, if I see thousands of customers entering my casino, I wont be bothered even if 3 or 4 of them wins the million dollar jackpot. Because the law of large numbers are in my favour. Reason 2: Live Data 2nd reason to trade often is to get live data so i can verify that the strategy is indeed working. As I invest more, I see my main job as finding more Alpha Quant Strategies rather than winning trades. Similar to running a casino, (I really dont like gambling, but i thought casino is one of the easiest to explain), my job is not to win every trade but to create more games that is in my favour and then allocate table sizing to each and see which games to offer more. Overall, 2024 is a year of Alpha Quant. Alpha means the "edge" that beats the market Quant means Quantitative I hope this sharing helps - Do refer to our previous post where I shared the youtube recording and resources on these strategies.
