All three recombinant viruses replicated (Figure S1), generated similar plaques in Vero E6 cells, and could be passaged serially in the cell culture without exogenous trypsin (Figure 1B). We defined cytopathic effect (CPE) by cell rounding and detachment from monolayers. GFP signals were evident in cells two days after transfection with RNA transcripts from both indicator viruses (Figure 1C).
