BREAKING UPDATE: Per multiple border law enforcement sources, a U.S. Border Patrol agent shot & killed a suspected cartel smuggler after he came across the river & allegedly assaulted the agent in Starr County, TX, (Rio Grande Valley) this afternoon. I’m told it happened in Border Patrol’s Rio Grande City area of operation, and the agent is okay. This is one of the most dangerous areas of the border for cartel activity. We spent many days there during the border crisis. It’s where we repeatedly saw suspected cartel gunmen caught on trail cameras moving  through the brush, Border Patrol vehicles hit by gunfire, gunmen standing in broad daylight on the other side of the river, tracer rounds from a M240 machine gun being fired above a TX National Guard post, and shootouts and grenade battles on the Mexican side of the river between different cartel factions.
