Goa Became a Union Territory
27 जनवरी 1961 को गोवा, दमन और दीव को भारत के केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के रूप में आधिकारिक रूप से घोषित किया गया। यह कदम ऑपरेशन विजय के तहत दिसंबर 1961 में भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों द्वारा इन क्षेत्रों को पुर्तगाली शासन से मुक्त कराने के बाद उठाया गया। इस अभियान ने गोवा और अन्य क्षेत्रों पर 450 वर्षों से अधिक चले पुर्तगाली उपनिवेशवाद को समाप्त कर दिया। बाद में, 30 मई 1987 को गोवा को राज्य का दर्जा दिया गया और यह भारत का 25वां राज्य बना, जबकि दमन और दीव केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बने रहे। 2020 में, दमन और दीव को दादरा और नगर हवेली के साथ मिलाकर एकल केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बनाया गया। यह घटना भारत की स्वतंत्रता के बाद के क्षेत्रीय एकीकरण में एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर थी।
