There is a growing rift between the Israeli government and its army. The Israeli military’s spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, stated that defeating Hamas is impossible because it is “an ideology” ingrained in the people. In response, the Israeli prime minister’s office expressed anger and issued a statement asserting that one of the war's goals is to eliminate Hamas's military and political capabilities. However, the army’s spokesperson countered, saying that such claims mislead the public. This situation highlights the conflict between Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies and the army's realistic assessment on the ground. Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut reports from Amman, Jordan. A large fire is currently burning at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in South Korea. One person has been confirmed dead, and at least 21 others are unaccounted for. The incident occurred in Hwaseong, in Gyeonggi province, in the northwestern part of the country. Over 140 firefighters have been dispatched to the factory to attempt to contain the blaze. However, fire chiefs report that it is impossible for crews to enter the premises due to the continuous explosions of battery cells. Al Jazeera’s Eunice Kim joins us on the phone from Gwangmyeong City, South Korea, to discuss the latest updates. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter

Arwa Damon, founder and president of NGO Inara, is in Gaza on a humanitarian mission for the second time. She told Al Jazeera from Deir el-Balah that children are exhibiting signs of severe and traumatic psychological distress and pointed to a conversation told to her by a father with his five-year-old boy. “Maybe it would have been better if we had just died and stayed at home rather than having to live like this,” she quoted the boy as saying. “[The father] was talking about how the next war is going to happen once the bombs stop. “You hear this repeatedly over and over again. There is a war within each individual. Despite all of this madness and tragedy, it’s also providing a certain level of distraction from the true measure, scale and scope of everything that has been lost,” Damon said. “The traumas, the triggers are relentless. There is no escaping, no respite, no room to breathe … no concept of a safe space,” she told Al Jazeera from Deir el-Balah. The Rafah border crossing, the only evacuation point for Palestinians in Gaza has been blocked off. She recalled a little boy who has a shrapnel injury to his abdomen. If he is unable to get out of Gaza for medical treatment, he will have a permanent disability or possibly die. Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter:

Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara highlights the ongoing escalation in the region, emphasizing that each increase in tensions brings the situation closer to a critical point. He suggests that a significant mistake could trigger a larger conflict, with neither side able to restrain themselves. Reflecting on the past months, Bishara notes repeated instances of heightened tensions, particularly during the American-Israeli convoys to Lebanon. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera's Hamdah Salhut joins live from the Jordanian capital, Amman. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter

Israeli political analyst Akiva Eldar stated that the remarks by Israel’s army spokesman, Daniel Hagari, that "Hamas is an ideology" and "we cannot eliminate an ideology," have undermined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s doctrine that Hamas could be defeated "once and for all." Eldar explained that for the first time in many years, there is a noticeable escalation between Netanyahu's government and his team of unofficial supporters, who are criticising the chief of staff. This, according to Eldar, creates an apocalyptic scenario where the army spokesman, who reports to the chief of staff, undermines Netanyahu’s stance that the Hamas government in Gaza must be completely eradicated. Eldar emphasised that Hagari's comments challenge Netanyahu by implying that his belief in eliminating Hamas is unrealistic. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah must not turn Lebanon into “another Gaza”, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warns. “The risk for the conflict in the Middle East to widen is real and must be avoided when a rash move, when miscalculation, could trigger a catastrophe that goes far beyond the border and, frankly, beyond imagination,” he told reporters at UN headquarters. The head of the Lebanese group Hezbollah says his fighters are ready in case of a war with Israel. Hassan Nasrallah said his group would fight without any rules. Nasrallah also threatened Cyprus, saying the country would embroil itself in conflict if it opened its bases to Israel. Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr has more from Beirut. Ibrahim Moussawi, a Hezbollah member of the Lebanese Parliament, says while the group does not want an all-out war with Israel, it is prepared to fight one if it is “imposed” on them. The Israeli government has banned Al Jazeera from reporting there, so Hamdah Salhut is in the Jordanian capital, Amman for more about the Israel’s reaction.
