Rain Reach Programme • Hariharan Chandrashekhar, an environmentalist, initiated the Rain Reach program in Bengaluru to promote water conservation among children. • The program sets up rainwater harvesting systems, sewage treatment, and recycling of both rainwater and wastewater in municipal schools. • Rain gauge weather stations and digital meters are installed to help students measure rainfall. • Monthly, experts educate students on water conservation and the maintenance of these systems. • Till date, 40 schools in Bengaluru have saved a total of 34 million liters of water.

Malabar Tree Toad In a recent study it was revealed that climate change might shrink the Malabar Tree Toad’s range within India's protected areas by as much as 68.7%. About  The Malabar Tree Toad is a rare and endangered species of amphibian native to the Western Ghats of India.  They are particularly found in the states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.  It is active at night, feeding on insects and other small creatures, while during the day, it hides under leaves or in tree crevices to stay safe from predators and avoid drying out  IUCN Red List - “Endangered”  It was first discovered in 1876 and went unseen for over a century but was later rediscovered in 1980 at Silent Valley National Park in Kerala.

The Homegrown Hero! - Karnataka Man Grows Superfoods in His Backyard to Battle Malnutrition  Spirulina Foundation - Mahesh used spirulina, a type of blue-green algae that people can take as a dietary supplement to fight malnourishment.  Spirulina is an organism that grows in both fresh and saltwater. It belongs to the family of single-celled microbes (also known as algae) and is a type of cyanobacteria.  1Tbsp = proteins, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), copper, iron, some amounts of potassium, magnesium, and manganese  Just like other plants, spirulina can be grown from sunlight via photo photosynthesis. It can be grown naturally as it does not require any use of pesticides or fertiliser.  Shelf life - two years.  One gram of spirulina every day for three months is enough to fight malnourishment.  As for the cost of production, it is not as expensive and spirulina does not require much space to grow. It can be grown in an aquarium too.  Health benefits - aids control of anemia, diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure among others.

Monkeypox Mayhem: How This Tiny Virus is Causing a Big Ruckus!  It is a viral zoonotic disease (transmission from animals to humans) and is identified as a pox-like disease among monkeys hence it is named Monkeypox.  Endemic - Nigeria.  The exact natural host of the virus is still unknown, although it has been observed in various animals.  Initial infection occurs through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or skin and mucosal lesions of an infected animal.  Consuming undercooked meat from infected animals is also a potential risk factor.  There is no specific treatment or vaccine available for Monkeypox at present. However, the anti-smallpox vaccine has been found to be 85% effective in preventing Monkeypox in the past
